Just so I haven't depressed everyone - some things you can get away with saying at Christmas!

    [FONT=Tahoma, Arial]1: I prefer breasts to legs.
2: Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist.
3: Smother the butter all over the breasts.
    4: If I don't undo my trousers, I'll burst!
    5: I've never seen a better spread!
6: I fancy a little dark meat for a change.
7: Are you ready for seconds yet?
8: It's a little dry; do you still want to eat it?
9: Just wait your turn, you'll get some!
10: Don't play with your meat!
11: Stuff it up between the legs as far as it will go.
12: Do you think you'll be able to handle all these people at once?
13: I didn't expect everyone to come at the same time!
14: You still have a little bit on your chin.
15: How long will it take after you put it in?
16: You'll know it's ready when it pops up.
17: Just pull the end and wait for the bang.
18: That's the biggest bird I've ever had!
19: I'm so full; I've been gobbling nuts all morning.
20: Wow, I didn't think I could handle all that and still want more.

21: The parson's nose is between the bird's legs

Good luck for tonight Penny, I'm sure you will be fantastic - hope you are able to enjoy the whole thing too! Should we be saying 'break a leg' or is that only the theatre?

  • Just caught up ;)

Chunky - ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) for you and your family.

Michelle - we read to ours as soon as they were born. When they were wanting to look at books, we encouraged it, without "pushing" the reading IYKWIM. Talking to them is really important too (though don't make my mistake and tell your 6mo son "hello gorgeous" very loudly, when there's a middle aged man bending over the carrots with his back to you, who promptly turns round with the look on his face, fancying that his luck is in  :o :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )

When they started school, teachers said they can spot which children are read to and talked to ;) Trust your own instincts, would be my suggestion. Oooh, and libraries are great :D

    Okay I need some advice.
Anyway, I need to sort the situation out - I think she needs more attention and more structure and I thought about trying the Omega 3 stuff to see if that helped at all. I also though about doing a chart and giving her stars when she speaks nicely to people. Any more ideas what I can do? I ended up in tears last night because I was so upset by it all.

Sorry for the long post and thank you if you've managed to read through it all.

    Hi Julie,
Not sure what age your DD is, as things obviously vary if teenager or toddler? I have problems with my DS (15) and like you say, a lot of it is attention - because we have both always worked pretty long hours we have not spent the time with him that we would have liked to (too tired most of the time) and it is something I regret (and also have only just realised that we do) so we are trying to make up for it, although it is hard, and just a tad late\ it is still better.
We just do small things here and there, mainly listening, being interested in what he is doing, involve him in what we are doing more, etc, but it does seem to be working and he is no-where near as rude as he was with me (would really argue, talk to me as though HE was the adult and I was the child which is REALLY annoying...) although not sure what he's like with others yet.
The thing is, to change a habit (and now it is one), you need to replace it with another habit, but a good one. Like you say, she is bright, so why not get her to work on the reward system that you mentioned, get her to design the chart, etc. Sometimes this can be the best time to talk about stuff too, they are happy, you are not angry, and you are both able to listen to each other. Ask her how she is getting on, what problems she has, etc and just listen, even when you really want to comment, don't, let her get everything out.

Now I'm not a child psycologist or brilliant with words like Pigpen and Lil_me, and I am sure they will have much better advice, but I can only tell you what is working with my DS, so I really hope it helps with your DD.

Also, if you, or anyone else for that matter, are thinking about vitamins, etc - check out this website - they are really good, 2 for 1 on everything...

www.simplysupplements.co.uk - (check spelling, or you get a google type site) I get my Mum's glucosamin from here - this is the link for the omega stuff http://www.simplysupplements.net/category/57/fish-oils/

    Hope that helps... Dx

Apologies in adavance if I get people mixed up...its toooooo early.

Chunky - So sorry to hear about your poorlies and you aunt, hope your feeling better in yourself and your aunt is comfortable. We love you and you can tell us anything, Lord knows the rest of us do it too. *HUGS*

Michelle - I don't have experience with teaching/helping younglings with reading, but I was an avid reader as a child (okay, still am, massive on books, would get rid of TV in favour of them) and one of the biggest things I remember about it as a child is people (parents/nursery/teaching) just where there to help, no-one pushed or said 'read this way'(in an Aerosmith type way of course) so I think your current plan is fab...your teacher friend does sound a mite pushy.

Valli - Hope DS is feeling better. Weirdly other peoples sick doesn't bother me, I've even helped the cleaners out at work when they've been grossed out (pharmacy + first aider = lots of poorly children in close proximity to me....yay) but I hate being sick myself. I love the smell of bleach when i'm poorly like that.

Julie-jim - *hugs* for DD stress, can't really offer any valid points (sowwy) but I think Pen Pen said some good stuff. P.S Love the 'things you can get away with.....' I'm going to try and say them all:D

Pink fairy - Glad Clyde has a happy new home with sibling. That picci must look so cute.

Penelope Penguin - GOOD LUCK!!!!! You must be soooooo brave. All those people

Sexymouse - Did kitty come home? Hope he/she(don't remember if you said) doesn't wake you up too late/cold

Flower - Hope hubbies cold gets better soon, nothings worse then being at work with the poorlies

Right, think that was everything. Prolly wasn't so i'll back later with an update list...Now to move on to a flying list (I like lists...did ya guess?). To be fair, I'm mostly maintanence with some laundry thrown in but I'm planning to make a paper machie(sp) money pot at some point today so that will inevitably get VERY messy, might have sister over later to do some Chrimbo brainstorming...she's no ideas at all, and since I'm done, figured we'll see what we can see...

Hugs to all (coz you're worth it) Hope eveyone wakes up happy!
    Now MARRIED!11/09/10
