I would go and see your GP about it, sometimes I think the child needs to be taught how to walk properly (sort of like physio) and also I'm sure I've read that sometimes the tendons are too tight or something like that and they may need a little op. Also, and I really don't want to worry you, but my friends son can only walk on his tiptoes and he has cerebral palsy. He was about 20 months when he was diagnosed, he was making no attempts to walk other than around furniture and always just on tip-toes. He's now taking a few steps on his own but still just on tip-toes, he's just been measured for splints and he's getting physio so hopefully that should help.

If you're worried about it I would ask your GP.

I would see the health visitor again and if you get fobbed off, see the Dr... A friend of mine had a son who walked on tippy toes and he ended up having an operation on his tendons to lengthen them so he could put his feet flat. If you can get this problem sorted now it would be a lot better than letting it continue...

  • Sorry i cant be much help as my baby is only 10 months old, i realise this is a little sketchy and im sure its nothing to worry about, but my cousins little girl started walking on her tip toes and after going to the doctors it turns out that she has something the matter with her hips and is booked in for a few weeks time for an operation to correct it.

Im sure its nothing like this especially as they do not know how it has managed to go undetected for so long, but i guess what im saying is if you feel you need to see the GP then i would go even if its just to put your mind at rest

    Good luck x
 I love my gorgeous little girl

Try not to read too much into that, children all learn at their own paces and I know what you mean about balance, DD cruised for months and months before she let go and walked... Just concentrate on the tippytoes and work on anything that crops up after...

I'm sure I walked on my tip toes when I was younger. I think remember my mum saying I did. Nothing wrong with me now :D (well, depends what you class as 'wrong' I suppose)
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • Hi

If your worried I would really go to your gp to get this checked out, my son has different problems with his feet and after the health visitor saying there was nothing to worry about. He then got admitted to hospital with a different medical problem but it is kind of related and it turned out he has loose ligaments so he now has special boots, does his physio in the form of horse riding, ballet and swimming and we are getting there. He still falls over when his boots arent on and cant wear anything like wellies etc, but his muscles are slowly getting stronger so fingers crossed. He tries to walk on his tiptoes because he finds his boots uncomfortable but has an appointment on tuesday for some bigger ones.

Do though please get them checked because it could be nothing and they could put your mind at rest. Let us know how you get on.

Try not to worry too much about it, HV are sent to worry us!! She should grow out of it, most kids do.

Yoru GP will be able to either put your mind at ease or spot any problems.

The main thing is that she IS walking.

Yes Drea you walked on your tip toes until you were about 3. No idea why you did, and no one ever said anything about it and as you know you are fine now. I wouldn't worry about it OP.
