I am going to yllas and have been there before, the bus was always free with the pass but this year it has changed but I have just got crystal to confirm that the bus is still free as long as I by the lift pass with them, given that all the lift passes are only available from one place and they all look the same there is no way I am buying the lift pass from them when it's cheaper from the ski centre - so it looks like it should be ok but next year it will not which is bad news for yllas as people won't go there if they have to pay for the bus0

We've always found the lift pass to be cheaper direct in resort than buying at time of booking. Crystal and Thomson always seem to add a 'little extra' on top. We've even compared between holiday companies and they always charge more than everyone else. As long as you don't mind doing it, buying it local, in local currency, it is usually cheaper. I guess when you pay extra from the company, it is for the convenience of having it ready for you on the first day. As for telling you the bus will only be included if you buy it from them, they are having you on. You're right - they'll buy it from exactly the same place as you would doing it independently. Sneaky, don't you think?0

Just gone on the yllas website and have found this - might be worth you checking out the site - I did a search on ski bus and several things came up: https://www.yllas.fi
YLLÄSJÄRVI VILLAGE 21.11.2008 - 3.5.2009
ATTENTION! Ski bus is chargeable for all passangers.
The price is 2,50 € / journey / person inside Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi villages. An other 2,50 € / person is charged when traveling between ski resorts Sport Resort Ylläs and Ylläs-Ski.

that's where we got the info from and we are all up in arms about it, we have also emailed yllas.fi (who are the ones who sort out the bus) and told them off basically ;-)
as for getting the ski passes earlier from the tour ops, in yllas you don't, all the tour ops do is give you a receipt that you take to the ski centre which you swap for the pass - really is mad0 -
Well at least you know in advance what they are charging in resort and can compare with what Crystal are selling it for.
Just checked Crystal site - it's not completely clear what area their lift pass for 110 pounds covers (just says all lifts in Yllas). Yllas website is 120 euros for standard 6 day pass = 104 pounds at current exchange rates. Not much in it unfortunately.0 -
there is lots in it when it comes to family tickets as for a family ticket the children get 25% off and we are also traveling with an OAP who gets the child price lift pass from the ski centre but gets charge the full price with crystal
for 2 adults and 2 children the costs are
crystal £366
inghams £348
ski centre £292 (that's at todays exchange rate)
and the OAP is £62 with the ski centre instead of £110 with crystal
that's quite a difference due to the family and OAP discounts that crystal don't give ;-(
the lift pass in yllas covers for both sides of the resort, we are possibly going to get the super pass that lets us use lifts in other resorts such as levi but this is all dependent on the ski bus - if it looks like we will have to pay then we will hire a car instead and then we can travel about to other resorts ;-)0 -
Has anyone actually paid at the airport? If so, how much did it cost?
I’m being asked for £30 per set (tho one is a snowboard – assume it’s the same), but I’ll prob stick the skis in with the snowboard. Intrigued to know if it is actually more expensive at the airport, or if it’s just a sales tactic…

I have paid at the airport but only with SAS (economy tickets purchased online) when we put together a ski trip to Norway ourselves. Charge was reasonable but I can't remember how much. Weight of 6kg seems very low but I don't remember ever having a ski bag weighed. As regards the snowboard bag as it is a lot shorter you may get away with putting it in as part of your normal baggage. Have a look at the maximum length for normal checked luggage.
OP was asking about Thomsonfly, their website states they do not guarantee to take sports equipment (including skis) unless prebooked.
If you are going from heathrow watch out which parking company you use as some don't allow ski bags on their transfer buses. NCP, parking express and the hotel Hoppa all allow ski bags.0 -

Is this Monarch charter or Monarch scheduled? Monarch ski/snowboard bag charge is £22.50 per leg max weight 13KG. Prebook(web or phone) and there is a £5 per leg discount. I can't find their maximum hold baggage size.0
