Hi all,
I don't normally start threads but feel the need to share my shock today!
Hubby and I went to the cinema last night to see the new Bond movie. We hardly ever go out anymore cos we are putting everything into clearing our debt, so I was looking forward to this treat. So hubby queued for tickets while I queued for ice cream.
2 ice creams £5.70  . I almost asked him to take them back!! Got back to hubby and asked for my change from the £20 I had given him. He handed me 55p  . £19.45 for two tickets and 2 tiny juices and a popcorn  . And his student discount didn't even apply cos it was Saturday night  . So all in all nearly £30 for 2 at the cinema. Next time I'll just wait for the DVD ...............................

That's tough juicygirl. I must say that I think that most mainstream cinema complexes are vastly over-priced, particulalry when it comes to paying for the extras. Anyway, I hope it didn't spoil your night

Well Daniel Craig did take my mind off it a bit
I just always thought it important to support local buisnesses, especially since our local bowling alley has closed and now MFI and Woolies will also be likely to go. But want to these companies do for us except rip us off??
Maybe I'm just bitter cos I missed X - Factor for it too!0 -
The food is vastly over-priced in cinema complexes. That's how they make their money!
Here a cinema ticket for one person is about £7. I'm too tight to buy anyfood (I don't like to be made a fool of: you can buy 500ml of B&J ice-cream in the supermarkets for about £4) so I never buy food.

My OH and I only go cinema on a Wednesday now for Orange Wednesday 2 for 1 because the prices are too high every other day. However, if theres a film we both really want to see, we might make a Saturday night of it, dinner, movie, etc, but thats very rare considering how expensive it is.
I'd be bitter too if i missed the X Factor lol xx0 -
Yeah, if we ever go back I'll be sneaking in the juice and packet popcorn!0

Same here shopaholic - I only ever do the cinema on a wednesday (and even then I usually go late afternoon as it's even cheaper!!) It usually costs £5.70 for two to watch the film and a 69p bag of wine gums from Tesco...
Sorry that your night was spoilt Juicy - but you did deserve a night out...!Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
Cinemas are just over priced sweet shops that happen to show films.
The cinemas have to pay a very proportion of the takings to the film distributors when a new 'blockbuster' is released.
Over the weeks, the proportion decreases and the cinema starts to make more money.
That is why they can show older/foreign language etc films mid week during the daytime and charge less or offer tea and biscuits.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
i'm the same with the orange wednesdays - i'm not even on orange but they were doing a free payg sim offer so i got it and topped up a fiver just to get the cinema offer - and have used it a LOT. i go to woolies and get a big bag of whatever sweets are £1 and bogof pepsi or coke. most women have handbags big enough to fit in sweets and a bottle of coke. i've stopped feeling like a cheapskate now everyone is suffering with the credit crunch!"I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Simply walk out of one screen and straight into the next.
Most cinemas only check your ticket once and when you're in you can walk into whichever screens you want. 2 films (or more if you have the stamina) for the price of one!
Ive seen kids do this, but its not something i'd expect adults to do. Very naughty!!!! Plus i'd be extremely pi**ed if i found somebody in my seats who were in there for free, especially when i'd just paid silly money!0
