I was on BT total broadband option 3 with line rental for £37.22 a month, so I thought I'd have alook at other provider's to see which other's gave a similar service and how much I would save, simple enough to do , or so I thought,  anyway I decided on Tiscali as they said upto 8mb broadband unlimited usage but on a fair usage scheme just like bt, but with free line rental and all calls to 01 02 numbers free, for £14.99 for the 1st 3 months then £19.99 after that on a 12 months contract, but as I am not in an LLU area I cannot get the free line rental but they will let me have it as a discount of £8.24 amonth, so that meant I'd be paying them £28 amonth or around that price. simple I thought.
so I got in touch with Bt and asked them for a Mac code, which they then said it would take 5 days to generate, taking my mobile number and email address so they could forward these on to me, anyway the guy asked if I would stay if he got me a good deal, and I stated that if the deal wasn't gonna be cheaper or similar to that of Tiscali then no, he did admit then that he couldn't offer me the same or anything near similar.
 which really they could if they really wanted to keep you as a customer.
anyway I rang on the wednesday to chase up the mac code and got the same sort of reception, to which I refused.
anyway on the friday this guys says he can offer similar £22.99 a month on a 12 months contract the same as I would be getting with Tiscali, I asked him to repeat this twice so I said yes ok then, anyway the router arrived on friday 28th 1 week after I had said yes. and he said my service would start then for my BB, ok I says,
anyway today I got this email off them saying I had used 7gbs of the 10gb allowance I had on my BB package and to call this number to up-grade to option 3...
well you can imagine the language was blue from me...so I rang them and asked which package I was on they said option 1 but I could up-grade at a cost to option 3 if I wanted to...so I said no I don't, told them I was fuming and they passed me around the office on the phone for about 4 people so I hung up.
so at the end of the day, I haven't got a retention I was downgraded and given another 12 months contract,
so I haven't saved a penny,
infact they have got more out of me cos I went with them for all calls and landline at a discounted price as an all in package,
so how do I get out of this,
I no longer want to stay with them as they have blatantly lied to me about the package they were giving,
mis-selling there BB to keep me as a customer.
where do I stand now.
can I quote some fabulous Act of 19 something or other at them saying under this Law you cannot keep me in this contract and I can go free of charge.
help I need advice.
what are my rights.

My partner wants to change to Tiscali's Option 1 (we have to keep BT line rental due to exchange limitations) but I'm a bit more cautious. BT have offered us a retention deal which includes discounted calls to mobiles. I can't find any similar offers on Tiscali's website. Is BT to be trusted?0

BT also conned me into a retention deal a few months back

I was told different information by different phone staff, and have ended up paying more than I was promised. No wonder they refused to provide anything in writing! (thought that was a bit strange for a "communications" company...)
They have not even acknowledged my complaint yet. Only got round to making it last week though, so we'll see what happens.
Slightly fed up though, as I've been getting broadband from them for 8 years (yes, 8 years!) and this is how they treat me...

this happened to me the other week, they offered me 7.33 opt 1 but when my bill came they charged me 15.99, immediatley wrote an email to customer services and received a reply 12 hours later apologising and that i would be refunded my over payment and my correct monthly charge was 7.33. Happy with that, just hope the next bill reflects this :rolleyes:0

when i ring tiscali they its on order....
tiscali say my phone calls and line went over to them on saturday the 13th but bt have billed me 21p for going over the hour on sunday afternoon,
...I so I guess it'll get sorted eventually but so far I am not impressed with Tiscali as my friends would be, so I don't know, they say they have sent me a wireless router, but I haven't got anything yet.
I'll let you know...
 I bet its BT doing this.
