New Years Eve evening is usually free. I'm unsure about new years day.
But the tube lines do close. The last tube to run on the central line is approx 1/1.30am. They do not start running again until approx 6am.
So would agree check out the tfl website0 -

You would be excused for thinking so but apparantly not!bengal-stripe wrote: »Then contact Transport for London, only they can speak with authority!
I went to this website http://www.tfl.gov.uk/ and couldn't find anything about this coming NYE. So I called them and asked, and they didn't know anything about it! They just advised me on service times and said you had to pay. Obviously someone there knows but it depends on the agent you speek to and how good the communication is!Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

I'd completely avoid trying to travel on the tube around midnight on NYE anyway, I did last year and it was an absolute nightmare, there was nearly a riot at Waterloo. Free or not, totally not worth it!0
