Hi mum of 4 I'm so sorry to hear about your chickens. You have been so helpful and supportive.

I have a red eglu with 2 extra runs. It has plastic bars which are really easy to clean. If you can afford it I would go for a cube. I have never kept chickens before so thought I would start small but I really wish I'd saved a bit longer and got the cube as I would love to have more than my three chickens.

If you go onto the Omlet Club forum there are alot of threads about cubes and eglus.

At the moment we have both as I recently bought an eglu for introducing 2 new chickens to our existing 3.

If you buy 2nd hand (ebay or omlet forum) it is possible you would get wooden roosting bars - though you could buy plastic ones from the Omlet shop, or if you buy new they all come standard with plastic roosting bars (which are much easier to clean!)

Both the eglu and cube are really easy to clean, I couldn't imagine having to clean a wooden one out - it must be so difficult compared to plastic, Once the eglu/cube is washed it can be dried off with an old towel, wheeras presumbably a wooden one stays wet for a lot longer.

Regarding the waiting time - I think an eglu is only a couple of weeks and am not sure about the cube, you would have to give them a ring - they open again Monday 5th Jan.

We only have a small garden and the eglu/cube has been a brilliant, modern, funky and hygienic way of keeping a few chickens. :T

Thanks so much for that. I'll give them a call on Monday and see what they say.

My wooden coup wasn't that bad to clean but on cold days trying to dry wood is a nightmare plus increase risk of disease. The door was a drop down one and I think the fox must have lifted it. I understand the eglu winds shut so my thought would be even if a fox got in the run it would have a tough time getting into the eglu more so if raised of the ground which in our case it would be.

My OH is now really missing them as although our garden is on a hill the run is positioned so that half of it is visible from our kitchen window and my girls would always site there to see when we were up. :(
    Kind Regards

    You could try www.omlet.co.uk
    or www.praticalpoultry.co.uk
    or www.preloved.co.uk

Where are you based? How old are your girls? What type are they? Why are you rehoming them?
(think that is everything you would get asked ;) )

What a shame. My OH said he would help you to sound proof your chicken house if it would help or suggest your neighbours move!

Yategirl I'm really sorry that you have to rehome your ladies. I'm really lucky that our neighbours all sleep at the front of the house and they enjoy hearing the chickens free range. My ladies never really made much noise though.

I'm sure you could do something to help with the noise,my friend (who I will ask if she can rehome your hens) managed to keep hers from making too much noise. Is it only when they lay?

Thanks for the info on NBF going to phone them in the morning
    Kind Regards
