in Credit cards
Hi I'm new to this........first post!!!! but really need some help
My local MFI store closed down around a month ago and I purchase an x display kitchen and paid £3200 I put £2900 on my credit card and £300 on my debit card. I then needed to order more to the kitchen to fit my space where I should of pay over £900 they gave me the add on’s for £350. I picked up the kitchen the following day and was told the rest would be delivered on the 9th of December. I called MFI today and was told no orders would be delivered at all. My problem is I now have 2/3 of a kitchen which will be effectively useless as I will have doors cupboards handles plinths and so on etc missing.
Could anyone tell me if I am covered under section 75 on my credit card as I have only some of my kitchen? Or am I left with this nightmare of 2/3 of a kitchen, which will be useless without the rest.
Any help would be greatly appreciated……

Have you spoken to your credit card company?
They have delivered most of the kitchen - the administrators have told the media that they will do all they can to supply customers with what they have purchased. If the missing items are in stock you will probably get them - if not you won't in the short term.
What I would do is ask MFI who supplies them - contact them to see if they will supply you with the missing items ( you will have to pay for these) - you then claim the £350 back from the credit card.
Whether you get the items for £350 if the RRP is £900 is something you may have to discuss with the supplier and credit card company.
I would expect that you will have to minimise your loss by purchasing different handles for example as any DIY shop will supply you with those.
Have a word with your credit card company and come back after you have heard what they have to say.0 -
HI
I read in the Daily Mirror yesterday that WICKES would help MFI customers, if they could not sure how, but maybe worth a try if you can't get the rest of your kitchen from MFI. Customer Helpline 0800 10 60 97 or you can look them up on the web. There was also an ad for MFI saying all stores closing and a sale of all their stock. I would have thought that with all their stores nationwide they could still supply you with the rest of your order.0 -
Hi
I have been on the phone with my credit card company who have asked me to call back on Monday, however at this moment in time they say I will need to wait for a letter from the administrators confirming my situation. And even then the lady I spoke with informed me she is not sure if I would be covered for the whole amount giving I have some of the kitchen already even tho it will be useless with out the rest…with regards to MFI they confirmed yesterday that there will be no deliveries at all and asked me to call the administrators Monday morning. I have also contacted the other stores which are still trading who have informed me that the only things they are selling is x display however I would have to purchase a job lot black space kitchen as they are selling them as seen and not breaking them. They are talking NO orders what so ever!!!!!! Wickes unfortunately do not supply the kitchen…effectively I have spent £3500 on a kitchen which I have 2/3 rds of and will be useless without the rest. I just want the rest of the kitchen!!!!!!! And this was all meant to be fitted w/c 8th Dec in time for Xmas. I am now in limbo. But thankfully I have not pulled out the kitchen I already have, however have no use of my dinning room, as that’s completely jam packed with the other god dam kitchen!!!!! ARGHH…. my trades men are not happy either. Wish me luck for tomorrow morning hopefully I can get some resolve when I speak with the administrators.0 -
Silvanna, We are also in the same position.
Ordered a kitchen back in October 13th and after two delays of stock availability now find myself with no kitchen and no money.
Our kitchen fitter called us yesterday to warn us about expecting any deliveries from MFI incase things were missing! It does now seem like they will be making no deliveries which seems like the best way out for me!
In regards to your order, have you found out who supplies them or contacted you kitchen fitter (if he worked for MFi?) to see if he can order parts?
What bits to you have missing? Have you searched for them online?0 -
If you have a Howdens near you it might be worth contacting them to see if they can match the kitchen. They supply a lot of the kitchens that the big stores offer.0

I would advise that if you have paid by credit card you request a full refund under section 75 of the consumer credit act, as the incomplete kitchen is unusable. You will probably not get anything from the administrators, and in any case the credit card company has joint liability to fulfill the contract - you do not need to go down the route of exhausting the possibility of a refund from MFI before you claim from the credit card company, although the card company would prefer that you do this as it obviously saves them money,
The card company might want to take possession of the incomplete kitchen, but you can then use the refund to buy one from another company.0 -
I saw in the papers yesterday that Wickes will be taking over outstanding orders?0

I heard it was only for bathrooms however this is not true it is also for kitchens!
Price Match Promise with Delivery before xmas if ordered by 7th December.
I'll be looking at doing this!0 -
I looked in our local MFI today because I kept reading about 80% off - there was a load of tat to be honest and things for sale which were well over priced. Better off ignoring the "sale".
OP, you paid quite a lot for that kitchen - and its not even fitted? Hope you get the money back or the parts you need.
When we had our kitchen fitted and its exceptionally large - we built an extension to match our old farmhouse kitchen we used to have, we ended up paying a carpenter to come in and do it all to our instructions, hand paint it and it still came out cheaper than Magnets. And its unique. Just a tip for anyone contemplating a kitchen refurb. Check local papers for a carpenter/joiner offering a bespoke service.0 -
Customers awaiting delivery/installation
Regrettably, whilst the Administrators continue their review of the company’s position, all installation/delivery services remain suspended.
Scheduled deliveries due up to 7 December 2008
Please note that the Administrators have been unable to make the necessary arrangements to fulfil orders due for delivery or installation between Thursday 27 November and Sunday 7 December 2008. Those orders are therefore now cancelled.
As a consequence, those customers who paid by credit card should now contact their credit card providers directly in order to seek a refund.
Those customers who paid by cash, debit card or cheque will be contacted shortly, to advise them as to the status of any possible refund.
Scheduled deliveries due on or after 8 December 2008
Customer orders due for delivery/installation on or after 8 December are still being assessed as to whether or not they can be fulfilled.
Further details regarding the fulfilment of those orders will be posted on the MFI and MCR websites as soon as this information becomes available.
General customer order queries
Please note that customer order queries are not being handled by the stores and that stores are unable to deal with any refund queries.
The most up to date information regarding customer orders will continue to be that posted on the MFI www.mfi.co.uk and MCR www.mcr.uk.com websites.
Whilst the customer services call centres remain operational, please be aware the staff are unable to provide you with any further information regarding the fulfilment of specific orders.
The customer call centre numbers are:
Weekends - 0870 607 5054 between 9:00AM and 6:00PM.
Weekdays - 01405 744 813, between 9:00AM and 6:00PM.
Please note that the call centre is experiencing a very high volume of calls and therefore it may not be possible to get through on the first attempt. You may therefore prefer to email your query to customer.services@mfi.co.uk and your email will be responded to as quickly as possible. Again, there is a high volume of emails and therefore it may take several days to provide you with a reply to your email. Due to high volume of enquiries, and the ongoing review of customer orders, it may not be possible to reply regarding your specific order at this time. As soon as the position becomes clarified, customers will be notified accordingly.
Alternatively, if you require contacting the Administrators’ office, you can do so by emailing the dedicated email address mfi@mcr.uk.com. One of the Administrators’ team will endeavour to deal with your query as soon as practical. However, we do ask that you bear with us as our office is presently experiencing a high volume of emails.
Suppliers
All supplier orders including fitters and subcontractors have been suspended and should not be completed/fulfilled without the express authorisation of the Administrators. Payment will not be made by the Administrators for any supplies/work provided after 26 November 2008 without prior express authorisation from the Administrators.
Suppliers queries should be directed to mfi@mcr.uk.com and one of the Administrators staff will endeavour to deal with your enquiry.
