had a new dell computer a few weeks ago and it's been great using the net.. everything instant.
The last few days it has been painfully slow.. mainly on this site.
I am on tesco broadband.
The only thing I think has changed is on the left of the tool bar where all the little pictures are I have 2 internet connection ones.. they look like 2 computer monitors but one has a red cross through.
the one that has no cross through says.... speedtouch connection.speed 2.2 mbpsthen some sent and received figures.
the one with the cross through says... local area connection a net work cable is unplugged. and when I clic on it brings a box up headed network connections. in this box I have a sub heading of dial up with the same picture of the monitors which says...speedtouch connection connected. speedtouch USB ADSL PPP...
Under it is a heading that says LAN or high speed internet with has the picture under it of the 2 monitors with a cross through and says...local area connection. unplugged intel(R) pro/100 ve network.
both the green lights are on on my broadband modem thingie.
Any ideas????

Don't think there's anything wrong with your PC! This site has been pretty slow recently. Are other websites ok, what about bbc.co.uk?
The icons are displaying the status of your network connections. The one working sounds like a USB ADSL modem. The one not working (with the cross through) is a built-in LAN (Local Area Network) connection that you haven't got connected to anything.
If you want to get rid of the unwanted icon, right click on it and select 'disable'.0 -
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

OHG.. just been on bbc site and I wizz around it.... well everything on this site is taking 1000 times longer than normal. could I have done anything to my internet connection to this site or is that a silly question????0

Thank you for the link buit it does not say how long it will take to fix.. have we had any updates anywhere else from the powers that be?????0 -
There is another thread on one of the other boards that has some comments from Martin and the Webmaster, but in IT, it takes as long as it takes, estimating a fix time is often difficult.. (especially if they don't know what the problem is).. I think a server went bang..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
