What do you put in your kids stockings?

Options
Title says it all....

I have 4 kids ages 10, 7, 6 and 8 days, (am doing baby a stocking cos the other kids will wonder why santa left him out ;) )

I have a few items for my lot, ie mini notebook and pen, body mist for the girls, giant pencil and some ideas including hair bobbles/clips, match attack cards, choc coins.

I dont want to spend too much money on silly novelty items that get forgotten about quickly so just wondered what everyone else is putting in so I could maybe 'borrow' a few of your ideas :D

What about some things they can use throughout the year like socks, underwear, pencil cases, etc. If its things you would end up buying them anyway you might not feel so bad spending the money.

For your baby (and can I say I am mighty impressed that you are even considering Christmas with an 8 day old baby) could you get bits and bobs that they'll need too, like cotton wool, baby oil, bibs, etc?
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

MSE Aim: To have more "thanks" than "posts"! :T
  • a book? a new cup?
I have to admit I was panicking about stocking fillers for both of mine, yest today I dragged every single present out to wrap and shoved a load of things in both my kids and then OH's and for my son and OH I am done, just my 18 month old girly I need to find more for :)

Im so glad you said that, especially the underwear/socks, I was thinking of that but didnt know if I would be considered 'a tight @rse' lol so thank you!!!

Never thought of pencil cases, they could all do with a full stationary set for their homework.

Rusty, Trouble is im doing them Christmas Eve hampers so alot of the 'normal' stocking fillers are going in that, saying that, they all love reading (excluding baby obviously lol) so another book wont hurt.

Im just so determined not to waste money this year, I normally buy them all new PJ's to wear xmas eve but the girls dont need anymore so im not buying them, and only 1 child needs slippers so she will get some and not the others, but they will all have the same amount of pressies (thats what my lot go by, not by how much has been spent)

  • I do similarly to how my thrify Mum used to do it - several of child's favourite drinks (eg. cans, cartons - 'treats' that they don't get every day), big packs of favourite crisps (inexpensive and really do "fill" the stocking), big block of coloured paper from £ shop (this is a huge treat for son!), also little goodies that I sneakily buy around the year from places we visit - mini toys, even special pens etc that has the name of the place on, Mr Matey Bubbles, special Christmas tub of mini jaffa cakes, tubes of favourite chocolates, even a few freebies collected through the year. Basically quite a lot of food, some stationery, & a few little toys - this can be varied according to age & taste! Even used to put in "special" shaped spaghetti. Enough to be fun but not OTT as I don't want him waking up too early!!

I've been struggling a bit with DS (who will be 3 on boxing day) as I don't think stocking fillers are as easy to do for boys as they are with girls. DD (5) is easy, I could fill 10 stockings with all the tarty rubbish she loves!! Anyway, I've got him a big tube of blue smarties, and her some pink ones. I also got a bag of mixed fun size bars on special offer so I'll stick afew of them in too. I also found DS some "monster snap" cards in ELC. And they both love torches (for some reason) so he's got a Thomas torch and she's got a Princesses one. Plus a box of raisins each and the obligatory tangerine! It's pointless buying sweets because DS won't eat them anyway - he's a chocoholic!!!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
  • I've got three kids, and so far have picked up

pencil cases, pencils, pens, small notebooks from Home Bargains, socks for the boys, tights for my daughter, slippersocks from Aldi choc coins and a 'tube' of cadbury buttons. Go Goes (Have never bought them before but kids have been asking for some) Clone Wars Tshirts for the boys (reduced to £2 each in Asda :)), and I picked up a fun size bag of cadburys the other day from Home Bargains so I'll probably sling a few of those in loose (rather than selection boxes) oh and I picked up the eldest a Harry Potter mug from Play (thanks to a thread on here) for £1.99

All stuff I know they'll use :) I love doing their stockings :)

eta also a book each I got from the book people , although I've been squirrelling stuff away for quite some time so I really need to get it out and see exactly what I've got

I have never done a stocking for any of my children age 15, 12 and 5.
They come down to all their presents wrapped on Christmas morning.
We never had stockings when we were kids.

Am I the only one who doesn't do them?

My kids' stocking's aren't big enough to put all that much in - Santa fills them and places them on top of their other presents

    Usually have:
Apple and satsuma (it's tradititon!) :D
    Chocolate coins
    Chocolate santa/tube of sweets
A small toy - teddy or small game, depending which child it is.

I still get a stocking when I go visit my mum on Christmas day:rotfl:
