Free money!!!

Don't forget that you don't pay council tax in February or March, so that's extra 'free' money you can use for your debts. :j

My c/tax payment for Jan has already gone out, so the next two paydays I have £149 extra each month!! Yay.

Just thought I'd cheer you all up :)

Thanks for the reminder skint chick, I had TOTALLY forgotten about that - my housemates will be pleased when I tell them, and I am too of course!!

Oooh, what are you going to do with the "spare" money? I think you should treat yourself personally as you have been going hard at the saving lately!!

Is this true if you pay by direct debit and moved half way through the year??

Don't think so. Last year for example we only got one of the months "free", it is also affected if there has been a name change on the council tax too I believe. Its worth calling your local council tax office & checking.

I pay by dd and they split it over 10 months.

No am not treating myself - it's going in savings in case I do get made redundant. And if not then maybe towards a trip to New York cos I really want to go there.

I am not spending the feb and march payments I am putting it towards the increase in payments that are very possible when we receive our new council tax bill.Unless the council are keeping them the same this year, somehow I doubt it.

We're also a further £45pm better off for Feb & March as we pay our water rates by DD and these are only over 10 months too.

Whoopee! (except I've already allocated the money elsewhere....boring I know!)

  • No free money for me cos mine is over 12 months but I've got 4 months water rates as mine is over 8 months but it's a great idea to carry on "spending" bills that are only for part of the year.

this is the first time for us to have 2 months free of council tax, as we have either had arrears or moved house. so were really pleased we can enjoy being £96 a month better off. although not planning to spend it on anything, just gonna keep it as a reserve as i expect the council tax will rise again. last year it went up 16% where we live. so i know it gonna be over £100 when we do start paying it again.
i was thinking of setting up d/d and ours is done over the 10 months also.
