Will any of the MMR series be repeated? I wasn't able to see any of them (VERY disappointed I can tell you!!!). Why aren't you on prime-time TV Martin, as a regular slot....you could save a lot of people out there! We have paid off our mortgage (took 12 years, not 2!!). The only problem is, we need a bigger house and need to move to a more expensive area (for secondary schools) which means next year or the year after will be having to get another mortgage out!!0

I watched the prog hoping that it would be innovating and useful but found it very wooly compared to Martin's show - everyone I spoke to said the same. It did not give you much indication of their general outgoings and then just concentrated on them both working much more. My question was how many hours a week the wife worked and who was looking after their children during this time and when they went out to do extra work. Surely there would have been childcare costs incurred at some point? Also those three month periods came round very quickly saying they have now saved £x but not quantifying how and what they did with the money saved. Was it paid on top of their mortgage each month or were they saving it to pay off at a later date?
Nevertheless, very nice couple and hope they manage more this year.0 -
Agreed Angela! Exactly what I said to my husband!! I cannot work during the day (looking after my 3 year old - preschool sessions are 2 and a half hours a day so not enough time to work), I work 3 evenings a week when my husband finishes work. I have other children at school, and they have activites after school. Where do we fit it all in? We are money-saving bonkers, but we still stuggle! I can't recall - did the wife on the programme go out to work during the day? I know she did her singing and gave that up, and then ran her slimming classes, but did she work before that, or did she look after the children? They had a joint income of just over £2,500 a month I think? I presume that included child benefit etc.
By the way, my sister missed this programme and was wondering if it will be repeated? Does anyone know? I have tried to have a look, but can't see anything - if anyone know different, would you mind letting me know? She is an NLP practicioner (like the guy on the show), and was interested to see it.

The title is designed to be provocative - it sounds impossible to pay off an 80K mortgage in 2 years, so how can it be done? It also panders to the fashion for instant makeovers - few viewers these days would follow a series which took 7 years to reach a conclusion.0

I think the husband said that he earned £1200 per month and that they had a joint income of £2600 per month so the wife must have worked full time as well as done the slimming club. I asked the same question about who was looking after the children as they both went out to do the singing sessions. Presumably a nan lived nearby and could look after the children. Not all of us are so lucky and cannot afford the childcare to increase the amount of money coming in to pay off the mortgage so quickly but then we would probably not have been picked for the show!0

I watched the programme and was unimpressed. The thing that struck me was that nobody mentioned the dreaded T word... TAX. If you suddenly start earning bundles of extra cash then Gordon wants his 40%. I knew someone who actually did pay his mortgage off in 2 years as he converted to a religion that frowned upon borrowing. He sold off all non-essential items, lived off value baked beans etc., drove an old banger (or jogged/cycled) to work and never did anything that cost money. He did it, but I saw him get more and more weird as the months went by... guess that's what happens when you're stuck at home without a TV!0

I missed the programme about paying off the mortgage early, (and mine is paid thank goodness), but it sounds as if the end result might be the relationship having problems? Sometimes looking only to financial gain can result in more painful times, so I do hope people try to balance things. A contented stress-less life should be the goal. Money should work for people, not people just for money. Be careful out there!
I do miss Marvin too!
