Just a reminder that NTL made some price increases from the 1/1/2006.
See http://www.home.ntl.com/page/customerupdate for full details.
If you are still using NTL to make peak 01/02 calls, mobile calls ,or intl calls depending on what tariff you are on ,and your usage ,you would probaly be better off using https://www.call1899.com 0808 Freephone Cable Access Number.
1899 cable tariff is here :http://www.1899.com/mobilerates.php
EG. Peak Call on NTL to non local 01/02 number 3p a minute. and 6p connection.
Same call on 1899 0.5p a minute,and 3p connection.

Does anybody know what penalties there will be for cancelling a 12 month contract with NTL? Or know of a cheaper alternative to these prices whilst paying just line rental with NTL?
I signed up online back in June because of an offer, but they never registered the offer, and kept me waiting for weeks and two visits by engineers to have the line activated, by which time the offer had expired so they started charging me for what I should have been getting for free!
I have spoken to countless people since, each one with a 'computer says no' mentality, I'm getting nowhere and the calls seemed expensive before the price increase.
I do not call local numbers, I call a different area code and the odd mobile, mobiles seem to be particularly expensive.
Any help would be much appreciated.
*EDIT: Just seen the cheaper telephone calls link at the top of this page, having a read through that, any help still appreciated though0 -
Whilst your paying Line Rental with NTL a cheaper supplier would probaly be https://www.call1899.com depending on your usage and what NTL Telephony Tariff you are on.I have added some details to my op.PF.0

FirstTelecom's cablesaver tariff is good for short daytime calls.
1.6p per minute, no minimum charge - making it cheaper for calls under three minutes, and is an exceptionally reliable service. You can use the 0800 781 5454 prefix in place of a dialler if you prefer. https://www.firsttelecom.com
ThePhoneCoop also offer their full range of telephone prices to cable customers - various options including 1.175p minumum charge tariff or 5p off peak (like BTtogether) https://www.phone.coop
You can of course also use 1899 etc on top of either of these services.0 -
First:Telecom also offer a free dialler per line on registration.0

Telecom Plus also offer access to cable customers. They use freephone access and will supply up to four auto- diallers for phone sockets.
I would point out that i am a T plus distributor , and i havent given a link for this reason.0 -
The best way for me on NTL is the 5p presumably now 6p tariff.
This is free on top of the line rental, And gives you evening and weekend calls for up to an hour for what it says on the box, plus calls to US and Eire at 2p/min.
Daytime calls are via o2mobile, especially 0870 etc, as they part of contract mins. cannot be bothered with preselect, tho have used 1899.
My monthly NTL phone bill is no more than a couple of quid on top of my line rental.Welshdan wrote:Does anybody know what penalties there will be for cancelling a 12 month contract with NTL? Or know of a cheaper alternative to these prices whilst paying just line rental with NTL?

Customer services should implement this "tariff" with immediate effect.
List your calls by time and duration, analyse your calling pattern, pick the best provider to suit that pattern.
Remember you will have to pay someone line rental ,maybe the devil you know? (there is/was a website called NTHELL which might help you.)
Re the intallation !!!! up write to HO with formal complaint. Ntl call centre operatives have little or no clout in these matters.
One other point is that there is no such thing as local or long distance calls anymore all geographic calls are all charged at the same rate, 3p/min during day, 2p/min in evening and 1p/min at weekend, regardless of distance.
Calling mobiles from any landline is expensive, regardless of who you pay your rental to.
Calling banks etc on non geo numbers is also expensive, you can get round that by looking up a geographic alternative as posted on saynoto,

I think your find the 5p a min tariff has now been withdrawn to newer users.See latest tariffs http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/telephonepackages.
You can call a mobile for as little as 1p a min from Ntl plus 6p connection see this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=130980PF.0 -

I think he's referring to the 5p talk plan which gives an hour call for 5p in the evening & weekend same as BT Option 1. It's described as optional with no extra charge and is included in their tariff guide - see page 3.

Thanks Jem.
I know the tariff is still available to existing users of the 5p tariff. But i think they may have withdrawn it to new users. Its no longer shown as something you can sign up to on their site. But you never can tell with NT Hell.PF.0 -

I saw it the other day when trawling the new charges, was the 5p Talk plan.
Now the 6p Talk Plan, still worth a try as Welshdan is an existing customer. and NTL have always kept it quiet about it, since they reduced it from £2 a month to free.

Nice to know someone is still keeping an eye on NTL, mine has been elsewhere as there is/was no competition yet and BT and NTL are a bit like Tesco and Asda, and in that order too.
