Hi. I'm looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help. My mother currently pays twenty something pounds a month for lots of channels she doesnt watch and has been talking about cancelling this and getting a freeview box, which I think would involve her having to get an ariel.
I thought I'd heard somewhere that if you cancelled your subscription you still got selected channels through your box, similar to freeview.
Am I right. I dont want to give her bum info and end up costing her money she cant afford.
Thanks in advance.

You can get a lot of channels free with no card whatsoever. You can pay £20 - once - for a Sky FTA Card that gives you 'Freesat from sky' with the channels in that link.0

Fantastic 5bellies, thanks very much.0

You don't need to fork out another £20 for a FTA card. The existing card will work fine.Dave. :wave:0

You could get a freesat box about £60 for the SD version or around £120 for the HD version and watch more channels than freeview and you get free HD you use your old dish

Not always. Sky invalidate cards that have come from defaulted contracts and, because they don't care that much, hit a few other innocent cards as well.0 -
I previously had SKY+ with full subscription package.
I now have freeview only via the same SKY+ box (now with no SKY+ functionality) with the original card in. SKY simply turned the full subscription package off.0 -

When I cancelled sky I just watched the free stuff using the same box and card. Even if they deactivate the card you still get free channels - just not all off them without a card. You will see the free stuff you can get just now just by taking out your card0

i have a old sky Digi box with a old card thats still active
here is a pretty well up to date list of channels you get on a sky digi box for free
with the sky viewing card left in the box if its active
channel list
p.s.
if sky re-new all viewing cards for there customers in April the cards that are active now will have to be replaced as they all will be turned off0 -
