But I'm sure if your mum thinks about it, she'd rather the holiday be cancelled, than have the tour operator insist that she travel to a place that is currently not safe?
As someone with a friend in India at present, I would certainly agree with this.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Ouch.
I would ask for for an alternative holiday to be arranged ASAP. Why not go to Bali?0 -

I agree its chaotic when something like this happens. I was living in Ahmedabad when they bombed there. The fear factor is horrendous wondering if anything else is going to happen. She is better off going somewhere else than being stuck in an airport and she is safe.0 -
Suppose Thomson had told your mother 2 days ago that the flights were cancelled - then yesterday everything got sorted out and she could have flown IF they hadn't cancelled the flight.
Personally I think people should take notice of the news as it was the lead news item on the news for at least a day before the Mumbai attacks0 -
Flights are basically being cancelled two days ahead on a rolling basis. Therefore there is minimal time to actually advise people.
If she has to use them, why not head out to Malaysia or Indonesia as Meester mentioned?0 -
This may be out of the question (I don't know as I have never been in that position) but is it worth her ringing the tour operator and asking if she can transfer to a different holiday right now?
Maybe a very late deal or something - she might be able to wangle something as she can go straight away?
Even if she has to pay for it, she will at least feel she hasn't wasted her annual leave.
I'm not sure insurance covers this kind of event does it? Or does it? Has she checked?0
