i was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this or could help?
ive just been diagnosed with wheat-intolerance, (after being and feeling constantly ill for 3 years!) but accoerding to my doc i cant get the wheat-free foods on scrip coz im not a coeliac
its fleecing me coz a tiny loaf of bread is £1.99 and a bag of flour is £1.79! if i could get em on scrip id get em free
i dont think its really fair so does anyone know if theres any other pots of money to help poor students whose weekly shopping bills are reaching fifty quid?! or if my docs wrong!
id really appreciate any advice, thanx!

How old are you?
I'm 20 y/o and was diagnosed with coeliac disease last year (intolerance to gluten, not just wheat).
Plenty of products are now being marked as being gluten free, but things like bread are still a killer!
I ask about your age, as if your 19 or over and still in full time education, you 'still' have to pay for perscriptions, which really does bug me. I'm having to pay a fortune for bread, pasta, etc on perscription, which tbh, is vile. So instead I'm just trying not to eat it.

im 22 but i have a hc2 so i dont pay for prescriptions either
ive read about the symptoms of intorelance and coeliac disease and i cant work out why one is worse than the other, its as if the nhs is like 'oh well youre choosing not to eat wheat so pay for the stuff yourself' the choice is be ill everyday or not eat wheat!
blah! i really miss real patsa, pizza, bread, cakes etc.....

Try an application to your university's Access to Learning Fund - this is to help students who have higher than average costs - eg students with children, those with disabilities etc. There are no guarantees that you will get anything, but it won't take long to fill the form in and you have nothing to lose. Include as much evidence as you can - receipts/note from your doctor/info on your condition etc.
You should be able to get more information from Student Services at your university or from your students union advice centre. the fund is a grant and doesn't have to be paid back."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -
