Asda Network??
Comments

Asda uses the Vodafone network.0

They use BOTH the 2G and 3G networks of Vodafone. Tesco uses O2, and 3UK when there's no 3G coverage, switches to Orange.0

does that mean if you put an asda sim in a vodafone phone, it will work without unlocking ??0
-
You'd have to try it - ASDA uses a subset of the Vodafone network code, and whether it will work for you will depend on what code was entered unto the handset. If it doesn't you'll need to get the handset unlocked.0

Apologies for piggy-backing on this thread, but I am in the same position. Child has seen a vodafone handset that they want, but they also want the lower prices that asda offers.
Am a bit dim when it comes to mobiles, so would appreciate and idiot's guide to what this actually means:whether it will work for you will depend on what code was entered unto the handset
Thanks in advance.0 -

Hi Kurjam,
I bought a Pay As You Go handset from Asda Mobile for my daughter and out of curiosity I took the SIM out and tried it on my Nokia N91, which was still tied into a Vodafone contract at the time. The Asda Mobile SIM worked fine and in fact the network seemed faster for some reason compared to the Nokia 2310 it was intended for. Hope this helps.
Cheers,

I went and bought an Asda sim yesterday afternoon (50p), took it to Phones 4 U, and got them to try it in a Vodafone set.
Worked no problem, came up as Asda Mobile.
Hope this helps.0 -
Interesting, is that for sure that vodafone phone will work with asda sim? Saw the Nokoia 1208 on vodafone website for £20 and £7 cashback from quidco, making it £13 for a basic phone. It will be an idle phone as a spare on asda network. Can I buy one from vodafone on the assumption that it will work? Or I must try it before to make sure? I read that tesco sim will work on o2 phone, but mine does not work.Thanks.0

As explained earlier - Not ALL Vodafone handsets are locked, and not all handsets that are locked to Vodafone will bar an ASDA SIM (As it uses the same network code for Vodafone).
Since each and every phone is customised by the distributors, nobody can categorically state that a particular phone model will work. If it does, you've saved yourself £10. If it doesn't, you'll need to pay to get it unlocked0
