valuing my car for sale

Hi all,

I am looking at selling/part exchanging my car soon. I know the market is a tad weak at the moment, but I am looking for somewhere to get a value on my existing car.

I get car allowance for work, and dont want to clock up too many more miles on this car. Originally I was going to wait until March/April time.

Anyway, car is a 56 plate(Dec 06) Ford Focus Zetec Climate 5-door hatchback 37k on the clock

any suggestions on where to go(please keep it clean...lol)ie websites etc

thanks in advance

    Check Autotrader for similar vehicles...?

  • The car market is in meltdown because very few can get finance at the moment. I saw some prices obtained at auction recently and the prices achieved were truly shocking- amazingly low. Apparently cars are selling for about 20%/40% below trade price. If you can I'd stick with what you've got.

What are you seeing Rev? Is anything actually moving?
  • You could try Whatcar as they have a tool that allows you to put your car details in and it will give you a rough valuation. Not sure if it takes into account the current deflated market (suspect it doesn't) but it is free and would give you a bit of a guide.
  • Also you will take a bit of a hit because 37k miles is high for a two year old car. Is there anything particularly wrong with it apart from the high mileage? I've often made the mistake of trading in too early, and while it's nice to drive a new car, you do lose shedloads of dosh. I agree with johnocyprus.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

We are not doing spectacularly, but used cars particularly have picked up this month. I think we've only sold 6 new, but over 20 used which is fair in this climate...

  • The best place is to go is http://www.vauxhall.com/vaux/pages/financeAndServices/valueYourCar/index.jspAs this uses glasses guide, most dealers will either use this or Cap to assist in valuing your car

Remember this is a guide. A car is worth what someone will pay for it. So don't be surprised if dealers are offering £500-£1000 below the book price at the moment. In short if you can get anything close to this value in px your doing well.

If your going to sell privately my best advice is to do a national search on Auto Trader for cars like your being sold privately and price accordingly.

Parkers can sometimes be miles off especially in times like this as the data it uses is usually at least a month old.
  • thanks for all the replies. I will look into the various options this evening.

Nothing wrong with the car, in fact I really enjoy driving it and given the choice would keep it longer.

With getting car allowance the company rules are cars no older than five years(no problem there) and no more than 120k(no problem there either)

I was just thinking that if I keep it till March/April there could easily be yet another 15k on it.

As said I was just looking, I dont have any problem with the car, and if I replaced it the replacement would probably be another Focus Zetec.

Also not looking at buying a brand new car - probably 6-12months old as last time

ps apologies for the lack of apostrophes due to a c**p keyboard

    Again thanks everyone
