Yup, after scouring the forums for whether it was solid enough, and no improvement.

I suspect the Netgear is probably OK for thinner walled plasterboard new houses and where range is not a problem, I just couldn't believe it was hyped so much when the 3com stuff has just plain worked for me and over greater distance - 3 brick walls (one double bricked).

Way way back I used a Linksys cable router with NTL broadband and that was solid enough also, just really disappointed with the netgear - bought it as my ISP recommended it.

Right enough its plasterboard walls here but I can remember reading a few reviews/tests on various models on ADSL guide and the netgear didn't do to badly so that made my mind up.

Even though its plasterboard walls here, on wireless I am nearly always getting 100% signal, it very rarely drops.

On the desktop I have the Netgear PCI card and it picks up nearby connections that are quite a bit away, albeit only about 25% but they are very far away and have to go through various walls

i have had this router for ages , i just upgraded to the latest firmware and have never had any dropped connections or problem with distance. I live in an old victorian house with thick walls. My main pc is in the second bedroom which is where the router is hardwired to. I then use my laptop anywhere in the house, bottom of the garden and always have great connections. my psp and pocket pc also connect fine.

Would definately reccomend it but make sure you upgrade the firmware straight away.

I know this should be discussed on the Techie board but I'm sure you won't mind ;)

I have NTL Broadband and live in a thick walled traditional terrace ( Seem to be considerations ?! ) Which wireless router would be best suited in your opinions please ?

I have a Netgear DG 834GT but I've been told that this is 'over' suitable and it I install it, may mess up my system as I'm not on ADSL ?!?

    Thanks !
  • DG834GT is definitely not what you want... it won't act as router unless it is plugged into the WAN (aka in this case, ADSL)
