I'd like to know where these peeps get the mobile numbers from?
i've had some company caliming to be from orage call me up latley saying my contract is about to expire and do i want a latest phone and ace contract for virtually nothing.......the thing that makes me think there not genuine is i'm on PAYG!!!
it's most likely that they have no information at all about you, but just random-dial numbers until someone answers, then try a bit of 'social engineering' to convince you to give them information they pretend to have already

These companies use the OFCOM site. On there is the detail of the National Numbering Scheme. Beside each block of numbers issued, you can see which service provider the block has been issued to and the date of issue. It's easy to see which of those is around 12 months old. It's not a perfect science by any means, but it's a fair start.

Yes I've had a similar call purporting to be from Orange - however when they were pressed, they told me that they were in fact calling from the Philipinnes. I asked them the golden question, ie please tell me my account number. Obviously they could not do so because they were not who they were purporting to be.
