best (cheapest) 512k bband, non 12 month. virgin?

hello,

i'm looking for the best/cheapest 512k, non capped broadband, which doesn't have a 12 month contract.

i'm thinking of initially getting a month contract with virgin (as there is no activation cost), and then migrating to another provider, like adsl4less.

can anyone suggest a better option? or tell me of their experience with virgin, particularly migrating to another provider from them (presumably there are no problems using the virgin hardware with another provider)?

also, can anyone please enlighten me as to what's included in the activation cost of the other providers, does it simply cover costs of enabling adsl at one's local exchange?

many thanks in advance.

activation is just the cost for enabling your line.

they have been other messages about doing the virgin thing as most isp's offer a reduced cost for migration.
it would be good to hear from anyone who has managed to do this.

that's what i did (although i didn't plan it that way - i was forced out because Virgin were about to start capping downloads ...anyways...)

the only problem is you'll probably be on the phone waiting for half an hour or so to get the code you need to migrate.

once you've got it you're sorted - just remember to work out the best time to switch so you avoid ending up with much of an overlap of services.

i switched to plus.net - i'm still looking for a better or cheaper non-contract alternative: 512kbps uncapped and monthly contract works out at £21.99 per month.

(also at the time (i can only presume they're still doing it) virgin and plus.net were able to do the switch after 7 days - so it works out quite quick)
