New headphone recommendations........

Options
.....for my Creative Muvo Tx FM please.

One of the earphones has started to crackle on the headphones supplied with the player, so I'm in the market for a new set.

I use the player for the gym mostly, so a set that actually stays on your head/in your ears is what I'm after.

The player uses the wire to the earphones as the aerial for the radio. Does this mean that only certain headphones will work, or shouldn't it be a problem?

Price wise I suppose I'm after something mid to upper range.

Thanks.

I'm also after some for the gym but the priority for me is to be able to hear my MP3 player above the 'background' music so was looking for noise-cancelling or isolating headphones. Maplin sell these for £15 which seems a good price.Only customer review on site says "They work great! Makes Cattle Class as good as Business Class"
Anyone here know what they are like?

What type of headphones would you like?

In ear? Isolation plug? Closed? Open?

And how much are you willing to spend?

For an open pair, lookup the Sennheiser PX100's are quite nice, they get quite good reviews. Probably cost you around £25. Not great isolation and they do give off a fair amount of noise pollution.

For isolation plugs you can spend a fortune. The entry level Sony MDR EX71's (£26) sound very good, although are delicate in terms of build quality. If you're not used to isolation plugs either they can feel strange as they sit right inside your ears.

For a larger pair of closed headphones, the Sennheiser HD212's (£30) are very good, although quite bassy. They're semi-cirmuaural (on your ears rather than cupping them) so will squish your ears against your head a bit. They're still light enough to wear although maybe a bit too big for something like the gym.

Alternatively, a £15 pair of in-ear sony headphones may do the trick. The Sony MDR ED21's on Amazon for £15 are great. I used to have a pair. Ok sounding and you can knock them about a fair bit. Do miss mine since switching to isolation plugs.

If you're at the gym, an in-ear pair may not be the best though. I find from jogging in-ear and isolation plugs eventually squirm out due to the build up of sweat.

Maybe look at the Koss Porta Pro or Sennheiser PX100's or HD212's. Or if you really want the best the HD280's but they're quite big and cost.

I use Creative EP-630s with my DAP as ordinary earbuds just don't stay put for me. For the money, the sound quality is remarkably decent (I'm fairly fussy, using Sennheiser HD 650s and Grado SR-80s at home). If you can use normal earbuds, Sennheiser MX-550s are pretty good for the money, although they might not stay in place during exercise.

I've got both the Sennheiser PMX 200 and the Sennheiser PMX 60 and both are excellent for travelling and gym use. The PMX 200 are the better pair. Both £30 at Amazon.
  • OK thanks, I'll go have a look.

One of the main problems I have is the earbuds dropping out during exercise.

    From BBC website today:

'Headphone maker Sennheiser this week launches its first "sound isolating" earphones for everyday consumers. Derived from the earphones that many performers wear on stage today, they block out extraneous sound so that music can played through them at quieter levels.'

Anyone know anything about these, will they be any better than others that are currently available?

I use a pair of sennheisser HD-600 and HD-595's and I find both are excellent for use in the home.

By the way if anyone knows of any high end sennheisser's being sold cheap let me know. I am after another pair of hd-595 or 600 or the 650 model but I don't really want to pay much more than 150quid for the 600 models.

Yep... they are expensive but they last ages especially since you can replace the headphone cables and ear pads when they need replacing.

Can any-one answer this part of the OP's original post ? I'm in the same boat with my Creative Mp3 player but don't want to lose the FM radio!

    Thanks

Hi HLK, after posting here and on a couple of other sites, I eventually went for a pair of Sennheiser PMX200 Headphones.

Ordered them 3.30pm on Wednesday, they arrived this morning. I can confirm that the headphones work with the radio on the Muvo.
