There's no known reason why the funds have to stay where they are until you put them into another ISA, so you could stick them in a 3 month bond while you wait for the certificate (which, reportedly, might not arrive for another 4 weeks). You have to pay it into an ISA before April 09 to retain ISA status.

Alternatively, if you want to grab a fixed rate ISA at a respectable rate, open an empty one with Halifax now (currently 5.0%/5.5% fixed for 1 year). They will hold the rate for 60days. Add the funds as and when you receive the certificate. Your guess is as good as mine on HBOS ;)

I've put mine in a fixed Egg savings 6.3% (5.04% net) (I'm so lucky I decided to open one while it was still there :D), and giving the actual climate I might as well leave it there until april 2009!

Have had an email from fscs saying certicates are being sent out starting Monday.
I have today paid my cheque into a Halifax FRISA without my certificate. The Halifax have told their staff to accept the monies in without certificates as of 2/12.

My branch knew nothing about it - but rang head office -got sent an instant email with all the info they needed to know.
Happy now to lock it all away for a few yeras at 5.45%.
