I called the locksmiths in the day after we completed on my house as the vendor didn't even give me one full set of keys!!!

She didn't give me the 5 lever key for the front door or the garage.... they'd just left them unlocked...

Agree, change all the locks - and if you've got one - the codes on the burglar alarm.

but am currently holding off doing that as I have too many people (builders and decorators) in and out the flat.

And so did the vendor in the years when they owned the property. For this reason, I arrange for a locksmith to attend on the day I complete to change the locks. You just never know who had a key in the past ...... ;)

Legge appear to be a tough lock

Yale are like soft brass to drill through. The lock barrel is tough, but if you know where to drill two holes, you can pop a Yale out in a few seconds

Where the two screws connect on the inside, at a guess?

In answer to the OP, he doesn't need to go to the expense of new locks. For Yale type loks, just buy a new barrel part, which costs around a tenner. For Chubb type locks, you can buy new levers to go inside. Or take the lock to a proper locksmith (not Timpsons!) and ask him to swap the levers into a new order and cut you some keys to match.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I'm amazed at people calling out locksmiths. This is about the simplest DIY job you can do.

Whenever I move house, I always change the locks. the locks for u.P.V.C doors can be bought at Wickes, Howdens, B & Q etc. Take yours out and get one the same size.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

Sorry I would rather have it done right and at that time I didn't have the time to teach myself.
