Not all do. I work for the police & if someone from work calls me it comes up as unavailable on my caller ID. Ive had withheld numbers barred for years now & the hospital & work have never had a problem contacting meI suppose it must vary from area to area.

I work for a council, and there are quite telephone users who have ACR
( Anonymous Call Rejection ). To get through, you have to dial 1470 then 9 for the outside line and then the number you require. Admittedly, if the Hospital, Police, Fire Brigade try to get through with someone who ACR, the call will not get through and they will not release their number. GP's surgery's usually allow their Caller ID to go through, so there is no problem.

The question that started this thread was "Could number withheld calls be stopped." No mention of cost.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

The first part got away before I had finnished.
It might be too dear for you as it would be for me. But it depends on the person that is having the problem as to wether they think it is worth itI used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
I just checked with BT. they charge £4.10 per month for this service! Wouldnt take long to pay for a gizmo like that one! However I dont see any mention of the device barring withheld numbers.0

My understanding is that if a withheld number calls you they get a recorded message saying something along the lines of "this number does not accept calls from withheld numbers please call without withholding your number".
Bit steep £4.10 per month tho'.0 -
WOW JAN 2006 ????????????????
Whilst i am here, The BT service doesnt block ALL withheld calls. Some call types still get through.
I complained thinking the service was not yet active despite paying for it to be told it doesnt block
certain typesof withheld numbers.
Bit pointless then if all they need to do is route it through a PC or non UK service.
Cancelled and eventually got a refund.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It does block all calls that have WITHHELD numbers.
Where the number isn't available (as in overseas calls or calls from lines where no number is forwarded) there is no withholding, and the call connects without difficulty. BT DO charge quite a bit for their Anoymous Call Rejection service, but NTL/Virgin customers get it provided free of charge.0
