Courts Closing Down Sale...be quick

The word Foolish means something different to me when relating to money matters
http://www.fool.co.uk/invstratintro.htm
LOL - PS I do realise that being Foolish is not that same as being foolish.0 -
I don't choose to pay cash. I generally use a debit card (visa protected, by the way). This serves me well in numerous ways- no bills at the end of the month to remember to pay- no interest charged if i forget to pay on time (short term memory problems mean that i already have to make notes of important issues) - no charges for drawing cash at the checkout - one card serves all (payment, cheque, cashpoint)
As far as the up to 56 days free of interest, and 1% cashback is concerned, i have worked out the figures involved, and all in all the hassle outweighs the benefit.
Mine is a carefully considered choice. I am certainly not foolish. Far from it. I do find your 'foolish' tag to those of us who opt not to use credit thoughtless at best.
I think we should move this thread along from criticising those who paid cash for their goods. I am sure they already realise, with their own hindsight, that it wasn't the best move, without anone telling them that.
I'm not criticising - I'm expressing my opinion.
If you think it's a hassle to pay all your bills with one card which is direct debited to your current account on the due date, after you've benefited from up to 56 days interest free credit and up to 1% cashback, then so be it - it's not really any harder at all than paying using your debit card.
I don't profess to understand the extension of CCA protection to VISA debit cards - good for you if you are covered after using such a card.
Anyway, as you say, back to topic.0 -

I'll go along with that, If there's an opportunity to save money so easily at no cost, then you should take it.
As for the hassle of setting up a direct debit for the full balance each month, well what can I say.
One hassle could be having to carry another card around I suppose. Although it's always handy to have a spare ice scraper (saves on de-icer costs).0 -
Why not? They've either been refused or are too stubborn to change.Well, I agree with Red.
If you are solvent (i.e. can get a credit card) and choose to pay cash, you are foolish for three reasons:
(1) you lose out on up to 56 days' interest free credit;
(2) you lose out on up to 1% cashback (or even more on some introductory offers); and
(3) you lose out on Consumer Credit Act protection in case the supplier goes out of business or does you over in some other way.
Accepted that you have to be disciplined enough to pay the bills on time, to avoid charges, but if you only buy things on the credit card that you KNOW you have the cash to pay for, there and then, then you shouldn't have a problem with this.
Oo oo oo! I wanna be like you-oo-oo.
I think it takes more discipline to save for larger purchases and pay 'cash' for them. It is certainly more rewarding. I don't use c/c through choice (look it up in a dictionary). I also hope someone shoots me before I get as pompous as you Red.
Sincerely hope that;
Courts get bought out and orders are fulfilled.
I'll gladly pass up the chance to buy a cheap sofa as long as the staff keep their jobs and customers don't lose there cash.
I also hope (despite my own interests) that there is no sale. Yet.
I do feel for the investors/shareholders, but I thought share prices go up and down and are considered by many to be a form of gambling. I didn't think it'd be a gamble when you buy a new bed in good faith.
Good luck to all though.
You can spend your time alone re digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize you're the only one who can forgive yourself.
Makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Well said Valiant23
I didn't think it'd be a gamble either when buying dining room table/chairs & bedroom furniture in good faith.

A good point and one I support.
Although we all have a view on Courts x-staff situation, people loosing out financially and the pros and cons of using a credit card. Is this sale ever going to happen and will the stores open for a Sale soon?Never ever pay full price for anything and question everything at least twice!0 -
I believe that the plan is to re-open the stores for a 'flash sale'. However, this idea hasn't happened yet due to the potential of 'disturbances' at the stores. That is, customer who have paid a huge pile of money demanding their goods. If this sale is going to happen I'm sure that people will post it here.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Wooooooooooooooooooooooowwwww!!!!!!!!!!!1
When I started this thread, it was intended as a point for general information.
Never thought it`would get so heated.
To return to the main point, article in today's paper indicating a possible MBO. (Management buy out).
Whatever happens in the future with Court's it is a sad fact that those who have not received their goods are not going to see them.
