  • hi there,

As far as im aware H.Samuel still do ear piercing, they always tend to have at least one person trained to do it in the shop.

The prices range from £9.99 it all depends on what type of earings you choose. whether it be plated, silver or gold.

And in regards to Denise38 post about claire's i can but only agree, i got my third ear piercings done in there and it was extremely difficult to take them out. Its just the way the earring is designed so the butterfly doesnt accidentally get stuck in the back of your ear, unfortunately the stem of the earring was so thick i couldn't get it off either.

i had two earrings done with a gun in camden market (yes it was clean, as clean as my claire's piercings) for 5pounds. just make sure whenever you go has a gun and the earrings come in the sealed packets that dont get opened until you're actually getting pierced. anywhere decent wont mind showing you these things to prove its clean.

As clean as a piercing gun can be. They can't be cleaned in an autoclave , they just use sterile wipes and the studs used in them cause blunt force trauma. Also the studs are set too tight so don't accomodate for any swelling that may occure

I know I seem to be banging on about this but I've seen so many piercings done with a gun go wrong, not just on children, on adults too. Plus we're talking about a child's safety here, you can never be too careful.

So yes, the earring will have been clean, but the gun sure as hell wasn't. Ask any professional piercer.

Anywhere decent won't use the piercing guns anymore.

ive had all 11 ear piercings all with guns both cartledge and lobes and they're all ok, but it depends on the person i guess! its very hard to decide when piercing a child however, even me with so many piercings (plus a lip ring!) had infected piercings as a kid, you gotta teach them to be careful.

as far as i can remember (the last ear piercing was around 3 years ago!!) the gun was a one time use thing, it was in a vacuum sealed packet. not sure if it was autoclave cleaned but either way it worked for me! its all a personal choice and my personal experience is that guns are fine for me.

gotta admit though, a kid might react better to a needle than a gun as a gun is quite noisey next to the ear and can scare more than the pain!

They don't use the needles on the kids anymore. I'll be damned if I can remember the name of the thing they use (friend of mine is a piercer, damn him being on holiday right now lol).

I only have three, top of my ear, done with a gun, hurt when it was done and took almost a year to heal properly (damn my bad luck). Lip and tongue done with a needle, didn't hurt at all, healed in no time.

Some local authorities offer voluntary regulation to anywhere that performs piercing. It means that the place has conformed to strict hygiene standards and training.
  • Thanks to everyone - now having serious thoughts as to whether I will get them done or not now.

Rev - really interested in your points - can you tell me if professional piercers don't use guns and can't use needles on kids, then how do they actually pierce their ears. Hope I'm not being thick here!

I wouldnt have a young childs ears done one at a time. They might not want the second one done. Best to get a short sharp shock and get it over with.
