If you paid by credit card and if its over a £100 then you are covered under section 75 of the consumer credit act . So you should get your money back from your credit card company, if the worse comes to the worst

The "single item rule" throws up a bit of a grey area in the law if you bought, say, a £3,000 kitchen from MFI, as your credit card company (if they're astute enough) could argue that only each individual component costing over £100 is covered by Section 75, regardless of if you paid for it all in one transaction.

Having said that, I'd be arguing that the whole purchase should be treated as one "thing" - i.e. "a kitchen". (This would be even easier to argue if MFI had tied the whole transaction together in some kind of special offer).

Hard to know which way the courts would swing on this as there's no precedent on it.
  • i'd cancel and get a refund personally

You wont get the sofa anytime soon - they've announced they're going into administration (again) today. I think they were 'saved' last time as someone bought the company or something

Argos/Homebase usually do 28/35 days delivery (dont know if im ok to do this 'free' advertising as im an employee but before anyone shouts im just offering advice and feel free to delete my post and tell me not to do this in future. Apologies in advance if this is the case)

I have 20% discount vouchers for Homebase as well valid 5th, 6th and 7th Dec but couldnt gtee delivery by xmas as you'd be looking at 28/35days delivery sorry
  • I would go down the local building site and get me a digger, After opening up and retrieving said sofa, one could always check out the local woolies.

(Damn, I had £250 of Pick and Mix from Woolies for my 25 year celebration at work, paid for by my company. Seems I will not get my pick and mix now)
