Slow stopper thingies on kitchen units!!!!

Remembered reading this thread a few weeks back but taken me a while to find it again.

IKEA sell these "door slam stop" things as part of the Ikea RATIONELL range of kitchen unit fittings.

Ikea sell them in a pack of 6 fittings for £4.99 (ie 84p each) - Rationell Ikea # 500.820.36 (15691).

Packaged in a 6" square bag with fitting instructions on it, in a bin in the kitchen fittings area (in their new Milton Keynes store).

They sell them, per the fitting diagram, to stop kitchen cupboard doors slamming and recommend fitting them 10cm in from closing top corner. Three parts to each fitting (ie 18 bits in the bag):
- a light-grey squared off tube 2" long x 0.5" deep with a 1mm lip at front
- a small screw to fix that tube onto the cupboard carcass
- a light-grey sprung or hydraulic mechanism that slides into the tube

Fitting them was a doddle. Really pleased with them. Have half a dozen glass fronted Ikea doors (£5 & £1 in a sale 4 years back and not replaceable) that sometimes rattled with (unintentional) slamming. They now close really smoothly regardless. Shall probably buy another half dozen for the other cupboard doors too.

Made in Italy. No idea why they aren't in WHITE to match the Ikea kitchen cabinet carcasses though!

Looking at the ebay listing referred to above the 'mechanism' bit looks identical though in uniform light grey in the Ikea version and the tube that fits into the cupboard is a lot more streamlined with the screw hidden inside the tube fitting! Definitely prefer the Ikea version's looks and price but then for the last 4 weeks I've had the luxury of an Ikea within 4 miles rather than 54 miles as before!
