Babies and territorial soiling!

Hi, I have a 13 month old baby and he only seems to want to do a no 2 when he is at home.

I've always thought I was lucky in that I have probably only changed his nappy 10 times whilst out and about on those horrible changing mats in toilets. That's apart from holidays when he will go wherever we might be, but normally back at the apartment / hotel etc in his travel cot.

That's just TEN times in THIRTEEN MONTHS ... and we are out and about most days.

He doesn't seem to have any tummy aches or anything and it doesn't seem to be causing him a problem so far but I just wondered if anybody had come across this before?

He sometimes goes when he is in his cot straight after his bathtime which is understandable as the hot water might encourage him but he also goes at other times and mainly when he has just woken up from a nap when he is in his cot.

Sometimes we will be out for an entire day but he will always store it up for when he comes home. Maybe he is just more relaxed at home?

Anybody had a baby with a similar thing?

  • Gosh my 13 month old just goes whenever and wherever. Last week he did five poos in as many hours. The joys of teething...

God it's amazing what you'll talk about when you've got kids isn't it :D
  • I thought it was just us!

My 15 month old son never does a number two out of the home unless we're away for a few days etc - I don't know how he does it!
  • I've never realised before, but I dont think my 20month old has ever done more than wet his nappy while in the pushchair/walking outside; At home, other peoples houses, oh yes, but not when actually out and about :)

  • my niece has never done a poo in a wet nappy, if she's wet it my sis had to change her before she will poo..she's done this since she was born

all three of mine did that bringmeshoes - very handy as pooing in a wet nappy causes nappy rash
  • YES!

I have a 16m old who has done this now for about 6m. I am hoping it will make potty training easier. Like you we are out and about alot. Sometimes when we have been out and come home, he poos straight away, so must know how to hold it.
  • When we are out in town, my DS waits until we go into the shop my friend owns before doing a number 2... always has done, never anywhere else apart from home..

Actually...now you have made me think about it (nt somthing I have pondered before tbh) :rotfl: my 15month DD has never had a dirty nappy when we have been out.

More unusual - When my DS was a baby, he never once had a dirty nappy during the night or first thing in the morning....that did strike me as a bit odd.:rotfl:

It doesn't always pass either. My 16 yo would still rather hold it than poo in any toilet but ours.

When he went on School Trip, aged 10, his postcard said "I am missing you and my toilet." :rotfl:
