Stamp Duty - Dodgy Advice from agent??

Many years ago when stamp duty started at £30k, my parents bought a property for £30,995, which was split £29,995 for the property and £1,000 for fixtures and fittings. At the time we understood this to be legal and above board. All this was fully itemised in the paperwork and was never queried.
To be above board, the amount for fixtures and fittings has to accurately reflect their value.
I would always advise getting a fully itemised and specific fixtures and fittings list. My colleague bought a house which had a fairly new cooker, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. She sold or gave away her own (we had her fridge/freezer). On moving in day, found they had been replaced with much older, poorer quality items. The dishwasher didn't even work! Buyer beware.0
