New pole and boxes at edge of our estate

I think they may belong to BT. There is a long pole like a main road street lights with what is shaped something akin to a solid translucent sausage balloon. I have made a very rough sketch to show what I mean. Beside it are two green boxes about 3' tall. The bit at the top does not light at night.

I am curious what they are, as pretty well with their installation my BB synch speed has rocketed from a max of 5500 to 7904 today and interleaving has been turned off. However down line attenuation is the same @ 46, which would indicate that distance fromexchange has not changed.

I am hoping that someone on here may work for BT or know what the pole is, and if it is the cause of the increased speed.

Now it's even more puzzling what's causing the sudden improvement.

Maybe they've been doing some work at your exchange. Maybe your neighbours have turned off the UV lights for the cannabis farm in their attic.

Go and have a look on the pole to see if theres any notices on it eg who it belongs to etc

This may be completely irrelevant, but BT have (apparently) started the process of changing connectors on people's lines and these are meant to give a faster/better connection. (Don't ask me what...or for more detail as I dont know, it was something the BT engineer said when he was fixing a fault on my line.)

It's supposed to be being done all over, mine was done 3 weeks ago. I wonder if similar has happened with you and the mast thing is purely coincidental?

Btw, your drawing might not be to the standard of A level art...but it gave me my first smile of the day.

I'd also wondered if the preparation for 21CN could have some unannounced pre-release benefits. My exch goes over in 09.

That's the one! I couldn't remember the 21CN bit, lol. 09 is not far off so it's more than possible. My exchange isn't scheduled until 2011, even although they are starting the process now.
