I have switched to Equigas (from Powergen) and although the switch happened, it was a leap of faith so to speak. Having completed the online form everything went quiet. I eventually got a card from Southern Electricity saying they would be handling the switch. Later I got another card from Southern Electricity giving me an account number and a switch date plus a request to give a gas meter reading which I did via the 0800 number meter line. So far so good.
Not knowing if the switch went ahead, I phoned Southern Electricity. They seemed to be unsure about my account but did eventually confirm that I had switched and they were supplying gas. I asked if they had my meter reading but they didn't, and I asked how I was going to pay because I had not received any paperwork in connection with this. SE said I could pay by direct debit and get 6% discount. I told SE that Equigas operated a flat rate regardless of payment method and I was interested in paying by credit card. SE said I could do that and get 4% discount. They didn't seem to know much about Equigas or Equigas pricing. In the end they advised that I wait for a bill then find out how to pay it when it arrives. I also asked about the new internet access that SE are promoting. Yes you can use it they said. How? I asked. The website doesn't recognise my account number. The SE chap then admitted he didn't know anything about the internet but he would get someone to send me the internet information in the post. He suggested using the Equigas website. Trouble is, there is no login facility on the Equigas site - the account is managed by Southern Electric!!
Does anybody who has switched to Equigas know how to go about paying them and can Equigas cusotmers use the SE website account login?
I tried to contact the Equigas helpline but it closes at 2pm

Was with Equigas and Equipower and found, like you, that Southern were my suppliers. I opted for online account paid by Direct Debit and accounts were set up without problem. Your account is run by Southern. Two months ago I switched to Atlantic (also Southern), won't bore you with the reasons, but have found like you that I can't access my gas account. I've emailed and written to Customer Service(?) but can't get a reply. It seems that Southern/Atlantic have a serious problem managing customer accounts, maybe as a result of people switching to Atlantic late last year when their prices were favourable. You can contact EBICO through 'contact us' and ask them to gee up Southern.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0

I have just switched gas and electric to Equigas and Equipower. I have got both accounts set up on the net with Southern without any problems other than they did not get my gas meter reading from the 0800 number I have given this via the phone so far I have no complaints whatsoever and today I got a letter confirming the management of my gas account on line.
I have not had a bill yet so will see what happens!0 -
I tried to move to them. Filled the form in on-line. And that was a week or two before christmas.
Husband rang them up. Oh we don't have your details  .
Could not do it down the form as husband was at work when he called. So have to fill the form in again and ring tomorrow to check.
Does not bode well if you ask me.
Better be worth the hassle.

I moved over to EquiGas and EquiPower from Scottish Hydro although nothing really changed as far as my account as Scottish Hydro being part of SSE Group would handle my account on behalf of Equipower.
The switch went well and on time, everything was set up correctly and i've just started paying by direct debit on 01/01/06. I can use the Scottish Hydro website to manage my account.
I'm well happy and saving money0 -
My switch to Ebico has gone well. I've been getting cards telling me whats happening and giving the dates. Now awaiting my first bill.
The other side of the switch, PowerGen, are useless. My online account now says closed. So where is my refund? PG just say the account is clear and thats all they know. Useless. Another fight with PG in the offing by the looks of it.

Does anyone have any idea of how long it takes to switch? Just i applied for Equipower and gas on Novemeber 24th as it works out cheapest for me as im on prepayment meters.
After a week or two i got a card saying "almost there" and ive recieved "sorry your leaving" letters from Npower and British gas......Then i recieved new prepayment cards from ebico for my gas and leccy....
But ive had no contact to tell me what date i'll be switching or anything ... and as my prepayment meters need "resetting" to ebicos tariffs im assuming the switch hasnt taken place yet!
Im new to all this so i have no idea of a realistic time-frame!0 -
One of the cards I had from Ebico had the date of switch and a request for readings on. If you haven't had this yet then give them a call. It might be worth waiting another week yet before calling, xmas may have put them behind.
As for resetting the meter. I remember a thread where Ebico are mentioned as not resetting prepay meters but they give you a refund every quarter. Worth checking on.

We have used Equigas for gas and electric for approx 5-6mths, no problems swapping, I pay when we get the quaterly bill, the only problem is that the gas and the electric come on seperate bills about amonth apart, the southern electric helpline to be honest was useless and told me that the bills would eventually be sent together because it was a different person reading the meter!0

I have been with them since November 2004,no problems with anything, had 4 bills up to now all came quartely in the same envelope, gas & electric, although the meter was never read, (no one in when they came, so I phoned in the reading, they sent out a new bill),was told by CS that the readings are done by the same meter reader at the same time, my bills arriving together seem to bear this out.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
