Storage heaters! have i done the right thing!

hi!
I'm new to these forums and i need everyones opinions; I live in a large 2 bed flat, the main bedroom and lounge are the only rooms that have storage heaters in, both rooms are approx. 14ft x 10ft with windows that are 10ft long also(so very large windows), the storage heaters are situated underneath the windows in both rooms.
I decided last month, to change the meter we use because i'd always found that the heaters never really heated the rooms properly (of course after reading sum posts on here we may have had them set wrong but i cant change the past) so we removed the fuses from the heaters and had a bog standard meter put in, we were previously using a meter that had eco7 plus the cheaper seperate rate for the heaters.
So now we're using convector heaters (3kw) and a fan heater (1 or 2kw) which obviously do use noticable energy (im sad and am constantly checking the meter to see how much we've used) we very rarely have them on during the day because we're at work so its only in the evenings we have these things on.
so my question is have i done the right thing? or should i go back to them and ask for my old meter back? also i'm just changing companies right now to n'power are they any good?
thank you!
