I seem to be quite lucky, My vet charges £12.07 for a prescription but will write it our for more than one drug and for 6 months at a time.

They haven't mentioned anything about checkups being more regular with buying online as MrsTine mentions though but that may well be because we are there for regular diabetes check ups anyway so they don'y have to worry that I'm not calling them about a problem.

Only thing I don't buy online is the insulin as not sure how well it would do in the post as meant to be kept upright and in a fridge, Has anyone bought Caninsulin online and how did they find the condition when it arrived?

In fairness she doesn't do it for "regular" clients either - like long standing patients who she knows will call her to let her know if there is a problem... we were discussing a client with a dog that had chemo and a couple of minor ailments - the owner opted to buy some of the drugs online with a perscription from her and some from her direct - she was more than happy to write out a 6 month supply presciption for that case (although I guess like you they were probably back reasonably regularly for check ups anyway - but I didn't actually ask her :) ).

Ultimately then most drugs can be bought cheaper online because these companies don't have the over heads that vets do... and being a vet isn't as glamourous as you might think so i don't personally begrudge her or any other vet the salaries they take - the lack of social life from doing the on-call, the seriously gross jobs at times and dealing with telling people their pets should be put down etc... no thanks... I'll take my "cushy" IT job any day of the week despite what I thought when I was 10 ;)

Anyone watch Pets Undercover tonight http://www.itv.com/PressCentre/Tonight/Ep17PetsUndercoverWk11/default.html
about some Vets ripping people off, over charging and giving treament thats not needed. Making up things that was wrong with your pet when its not true just so they can make money and if you your pet is insured, just adding on more stuff.
medication sold by the vets are sold cheaper online.

It is on ITV1 again at 3.05 am this Thursday. Thank goodness for Sky+

Hi I have bought caninsulin online from 3 different companies and I have had no problem with the condition it has arrived in. It is sent special delivery (special delivery is hand delivered only, no machines) and the one we use now uses ice packs and bubble wrap to keep it cool. I know some people on here have advised against buying insulin online and I was a bit wary at first but financial circumstances dictated that I had to buy online. I work in the sorting office and as soon as the special deliveries come in to the office the boys let me know and I put it in the fridge until I finish my shift and take it home. If you know when the insulin is arriving you can go to the sorting office yourself and pick it up at 7am so long as you take proof of ID with you.

    Hi Everyone,
Can anyone give me some advice. Our dog Rusty is 13 yrs
old this year and like us all now that he is older he has started to get some wear and tear on his joints and he limps from time to time and we know he has some pain. We took him to our vet who has prescibed Seraquin for him, which has Glucosamine, Chondroitin and Turmeric Extract in it. I just wanted to know if anyone has had good results with this? and if any of you know a site online where I can buy it cheaper? I am not being a miser and would do anything for him but like everyone we are watching the pennies!
He is due to start the tablets today so fingers crossed they work. If anyone can advise me I would be really grateful.
    Take Care, Becky

Hope they work, if you let us know how much you pay we can see if we can find it cheaper! I'll look at the site I use, what weight is the Dog or what size pack do you buy?

Just looked & Seraquin is £20-75 for a 2g box containing 60 or £9-95 for an 800mg box containing 60.

    Hi There,
Thanks Tigerlilly for your reply. We paid £35.88 for 60, 2mg
tablets. Rusty is a little plump, he weighs 15lb. The vet told us to give him one tablet, twice a day. Many thanks to anyone who can help us find something cheaper.
    Becky.

£22-74 including delivery (£1-99) for a box of 2g 60 for the Dog (2g box for any over 10kgs) so 60 tablets in the box. Get them from http://www.nutrecare.co.uk/ I had to use their search button to find them! I'll look at other places but I find NC cheapest for most stuff x

£15-80 including delivery from Pet Supermarket, but you buy how many tablets you need, so can have any amount, if you want 5 you just buy 5. 18p per tablet. I think they're the same ones.

:T Hi Tigerlily, Thank you so much for looking for a cheaper deal for us, you are very kind and a credit to this site. I cannot believe the difference in price, it just shows how shopping around can pay dividends.
Our dog Rusty sends you a great big sloppy kiss, along with our thanks.
    Take Care, Becky.:j
