Ex refusing to cancel Sky account after a split

Very random question here and not sure if there is anything I can do, but thought I would at least ask. Basically I split up with my fiance back in August, I now own our house, but it has taken a while to get his name off everything, mainly becuase he has to sign and he is being an !!!!. He is doing so gradually but I have one problem left. Our Sky account was in his name and when he left he contacted them and cut the package down to the bare minimum (I now don't even get half of the freeview channels on it, but still have to pay!) as the contract still had time to run. It's finished now, but he's too lazy to cancel, he keeps saying he will, but doesn't. Sky won't discuss it with me as it's not in my name. I want to just cancel the direct debit, but it's registered at my address so surely this will reflect badly on my credit score? Is there any way that I can contcat the credit reference people and inform them that this looser (I won't write that in the letter) is no longer at my address, and I know I can't remove previous associations will they at least make a note of it on the file?? I don't want to do anything that will affect me, but I'm sick of paying for a crap service that he is too lazy to sort out!

Cancel the direct debit. Advise them that the person who's names it is in is no longer at the address, however you would be happy to become a customer of Sky and what offers do you have for new customer. Should do the trick nicely.0

If it's in his name then cancelling the DD will not affect your credit score. I would out of curtesy let him know you have now cancelled the DD and you suggest he cancels the subscription as if he doesn't it will affect HIS credit score. Then tell Sky that he no longer lives at that address but at XYZ

Job done

Oh btw so long as you have no more linked BY NAME credit accounts then you can send a letter of disassociation to make sure that your names are no longer linked if they have not already done this.
Your credit file is not linked to an address the way you think it is... Otherwise people would never do house shares out of fear from their house mates affecting their credit score

is this a new development? the reason i ask is because 15 years ago i moved in a shared house and all of a sudden i just could not get credit or approval for anything. i looked into it and it turned out that a previous tenant who had the same surname as me was in hock to just about every bank you could name...and this is what had blackened my credit score!0 -
If the SKY account is in his name, it'll be him they chase for the money, not you.
It shouldn't really matter whose account the Direct Debit comes out of. If you went ahead and cancelled it via your bank, you would just need to let SKY know that the person whose name is on the account is not at the address anymore, and give them his forwarding address, so they can continue to chase him for any outstanding payments. It would be the same as if you'd moved into a house where the previous occupant had SKY but had defaulted on the payments and then moved on (been there, done that).
It's then up to you if you want to inform your ex that you have cancelled the payments...0 -
I would cancel the DD, then send a copy of the council tax bill showing that he is no longer at the address. Do you have his new address? Send that to Sky too, saying if they wish to pursue the debt, then the account holder is now at X address.
Also tell them you'd now like to set up your own sky account.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
You should cancel the DD and return all letters addressed to him with a note on them saying "moved to..." and then his forwarding address.
The aco!!!! is in HIS name, they will chase HIM for the money. you are just someone that lives where he used to live, nothing to do with you. His sky account, his bill, his debt...
phone sky and ask to become a new customer. say that there was a guy who USED to live here had sky, but you never have and now you'd like it.0 -
You will probably be able to get a nice load of cashback from Quidco and a new box too for signing online.
Just remove the old one before the installer gets there, flog it on ebay or use it in another room if you want to go multiroom.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
