  • funny - i was just gonna post the same! I found my nectar card lurking in my purse which gave me £5 off the same cooker - reckon i can't fail to get my moneys worth at that price :D

How does a Nectar card get you extra money off? Is it a current deal? I have one but rarely shop anywhere that takes it so it lingers a bit in my wallet

Well done on getting your bargain. My late slow cooker is the very model you purchased. Just wanted to explain why I refer to it as my late slow cooker. I habitually went against the advice in the booklet and put cold liquid in it rather than warm or hot. After a couple of months the pot thing inside developed a crackleglaze look then liquid started to slowly seep through the cracks. I did get some lovely meals and soups out of it, and can only think that using cold water etc was the culprit for damaging the inner pot. Just so as you know....

BTW I paid less than ten quid for it about six months or so ago from Argos. The sneaky beggers seem to have substantially increased its price, then halved it to around what it used to be in an older catalogue. CHEEKY!

I haven't quite got round to phoning the manufacturers regarding a replacement pot, but if I can use nectar vouchers maybe I should just replace the whole thing and learn from my past mistake.

Everytime you shop at Sainsburys, buy fuel from BP and what ever are there other retailers that they have in the scheme you earn points. 500 points is worth £2.50 in store and at Argos. And in a few other places it is worth more.

If you go to nectar.com you can register and it will tell you how many points you currently have.

Nectar is the ongoing store card just like the tesco one.

Thriftlady, you'll more than likely get away with it if you've just done the cold liquid thing once or twice. I used to use my slow cooker about three or four times a week, and never once did I use anything other than cold liquid. I think now that's why mine got knackered, I was doing it wrong all the time, and it did take a while for the damage to appear.

Thanks to Calley for the tip about the Nectar card - I need to stock up in Sainsbury's on things Lidl doesn't do, and on BOGOF's - by the time I've done that I should have enough Nectar points for a replacement slow cooker from Argos. I am really looking forward to slow cooking again.

Thanks SnowyOwl, I don't think I've done any lasting damage,I will bear your experience in mind though!
  • This is spooky, I too got one today for £4-99 with the voucher lurking in my purse.

There were twenty available left in our store.

Just need to learn how to cook now - scary!!!!
  • in argos you can just hand your nectar card over and they swipe the points off it - no need to get the vouchers :D

seems to be the only place we redeem them [don't get that many as it is mainly our spare petrol card as we usually go to tesco for the points]

I can thoroughly recommend this little slowcooker from Argos, having bought one a few weeks ago when they were half price (about £11 I think) and I've nick-named it "mini-me" as it's a mini version of the large MR one I've got :rotfl:

It's not a bad size even for a family and I cooked a beef stew in it last week which easily fed 5 of us. I'll still use my large MR one for bulk cooking for the freezer and doing whole chickens, legs of lamb etc, but this little one is great for popping something in for dinner when there's only 2-3 of us :D

  • well i have a chicken casserole blobbing away in my new toy :D and some celery soup simmering on the hob :D

do you think this is early nesting for this baby [14 weeks to go] or late from the others?
