Query on transferring the number
Hi,
I am currently using O2 PAYG and I’m planning to move to O2 contract. Is it possible to transfer my PAYG number to O2? If yes, can you please let me know how we can do this? Do I need to pay any charges for doing this?
I’m planning to buy the contract phone through online.
Thanks in advance

it's a simple process as you are moving inside the same network. no need to pay any charges0

It's not normally possible to transfer from PAYG to contract in the way you mention. If you were going via the network directly for your new phone, then they would probably change you from PAYG to contract, without a problem. But if you are proposing to go through a retailer, you may have difficulty.
You would be better to port your existing number to PAYG on another network, then port it back to 02 when you get your contract phone.0 -
Ordering online or over the phone, just give them your current number and they will do the transfer for you.
Simple and no charges.0 -

I have to disagree with this. I moved my Orange PAYG number to a contract 2 years ago, the whole process took 3 hours from me receiving my new SIM card to my number arriving on it. It's a relativly simple process if you are staying on the same network. However, the one thing I would recommend would be to do it over the phone - if you can - I know O2 have the habit of withdrawing as much human contact as possible...0 -

If you got a new handset directly from Orange. then you would have no problem in swapping from PAYG to contract. However, you would not be able to do it with the same ease if you went via a dealer, say Carphone Warehouse or e2.save.0 -

E2save have the option when buying a new contract to select "keep your number", once that option is ticked it lets your enter your pac code, network you are currently on and your mobile number.
It's as easy as in a shop.0 -

You are correct regarding e2save. However, if you are with Orange on PAYG and you ask them for the PAC code, you would then have to give Oranges' PAC code back to Orange if you wanted a phone on the Orange network from e2save! That's when it gets difficult.0 -
The OP is with O2 and there process is the same, they let you enter your PAC code the same as e2save.0

Yes, I am aware of e2save and the other suppliers who allow you to bring your number with you when you buy a phone from them. However, when you request a PAC from you current network it usually means that you want to take the number off of that network and onto another. This is the whole idea behind being able to keep your telephone number, but change your network.
If you go are staying on the same network you do not need a PAC. I don't think it is possible to PAC from and to the same network. You can certainly PAC from your current network to another, and then back again.
I used Orange as an example. It doesn't matter whether it's one of the others.0 -
direct with o2 I had to get a pac code from payg which o2 ported over to my temp contract number, same process even internally. payg & contract, online or offline are 4 different money making departments ( this way they make each department fight between each other internally & externally for customers - it is in the whole of o2's favour & the customers, why do you think o2 has such great deals )If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:
