Would I be stupid if I did this?

I've been through the whole court case for PR/contact senario with an ex who has pretty much the same mind-set as yours by the sound of it, so hugs to you-I know what you're going through!
Unfortunately, the courts don't seem to care whether the nrp contibutes or not, it has no bearing on the case, although both they & CAFCASS claim to have the child's best interests at heart. They are also not interested in what happened in the past, just what happens in the child's future.
It is very hard to make them see that the case brought by the nrp may be based purely on control & nothing to do with the best interests of the child.
I don't know if you are aware but if you & your ex can't agree on contact issues, a CAFCASS officer will be appointed to assess the situation & tell the judge what they think is the best solution for the child. Don't be worried about this, they are there to hear your side of things(concerns, fears etc)as well as his before they make their discision.
As for trying to get a contribution from your ex-I wouldn't bother. Try to ride it out during the court proceedings & see what happens.
