Plucking Up the Courage

Hi everyone

I haven't been around for a while because I've moved into my rented accommodation and not linked up to internet. I've completed my forms, and all I need to do is press the submit button, print them out and find the money for the BR fees. Trouble is, I cannot bring myself to ring the court and make an appointment - I feel sick and scared. I have to do it soon as going into hospital next week and will be out of action for 6 weeks or so. Can anyone offer me some words of encouragement? Sorry to be a wimp about this, but it just gets worse every time I think about it.....

  • Hi max

thanks for this but I can't access it as still in work and no internet at home - can you give me a brief outline of what it is please?
  • Could worrying about submitting the forms be making you feel worse? Just think, when you have booked the date you will have one less thing to do and one less worry.

    Just do it :)

BR is scary, and will be one of the (if not the) biggest things you will decide to do in life.

But remember BR is there to give you a fresh start. And your health, family and friends are far more important than worrying about money.
  • Thanks Sophrosyne

I think you're probably right - as I just feel worse every time I think about it. I've been trying to pluck up the guts to ring them for about 2 weeks now....
  • I nearly did it today. The court official I spoke to told me "They have never been so busy" she added "Brighton has a three month waiting list".

I live near Brum and it's three weeks, which is not to bad if you get what I mean.

  • Hi Headout

Did you do it? I still haven't! I am contemplating seeing if someone makes me BR....... is it worth it? Realistically I can't do it yet cos I haven't got enough money for the fees. I phoned the court a month or so ago and was told I could get an appointment in a matter of days, think that's what scared me :)

unlikely, it costs a creditor £1200 and unless they can be sure of getting whats owed from your assets it virtually guarantees they will never get paid

a CCJ is far more likely
  • Thanks Max. Sorry if I'm being a bit dull, but is a CCJ worse?

CCCS told me I should have gone BR ideally from my address where I had a mortgage - so now I've moved, does that mean I've made things worse?

You have to put your current address on the forms. It doesn't make the slightest bit of difference if you move. Things are not always 'ideal'!

If you're sure you want/need to go BR delaying it won't make it any easier. Going bankrupt is the easy bit it is the lead up to it that is scary.
