Investment - usually a longterm strategy to maybe gaining more money than savings accounts. Usually minimum of 5-10years. You can risk losing cpaital. i.e. you put £10,000 in, after 10 years you get £5,000.

Savings - No risk, but poorer return. At the moment around 4%.

    Which one?

Have a look at the articles about ISA's - you can invest a maximum of £3600 in a cash ISA and the same amount in a stocks and shares ISA or all of it in a stocks and shares ISA - the cash ISA will give you a fixed amount at the end of the fixed period (assuming you fix it) - the other type can go up or down so bear that in mind
You get the interest tax free
But bear in mind the points raised by Lokolo
