parking ticket in disabled bay

Hi everyone,

Last week my mum got a parking ticket for parking in a loading/disabled bay too early. My step-father is disabled and used the blue badge while they went shopping and came back to find a ticket timed at 10.58am. The bay they parked in has double yellow lines but has a sign up saying loading before 11am, disabled parking only after 11am. My parents took this to mean that the bay is disabled parking anytime but no loading after 11am. Obviously the traffic warden's interpretation was different. Can anyone please tell me if mum has any grounds to appeal the ticket?

Thank you!

    This is from https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/MotoringAndTransport/DG_4001061

"Badge holders may park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours in England and Wales, except where there is a ban on loading or unloading. You must display both your Blue Badge and parking disc showing time of arrival."
  • loading before 11am, disabled parking only after 11am.

The sign will say more than that, otherwise the timing would be unenforceable. What else does it say?

Non at all. Your mum parked in a loading bay. It would be completely pointless making it a loading bay AND combined disabled parking bay before 11am because it's most likely to be filled with blue badge holders so how would a lorry park up to unload? Come on, it isn't flipping rocket science.

Your mum got a ticket for illegally parking in a loading bay. It only became a disabled parking bay after 11am.

As a lorry driver sick of struggling to unload in towns because of morons parking in loading bays, my hat is off to the Traffic Warden for a job well done.

Thank you very much for your replies - with the exception of Conor who provided a worthless rant in response to a perfectly legitimate query regarding the misinterpretation of a sign that can be read in two ways (i.e. the original thread, which was "not rocket science" to work out). I will post on that forum, thank you sarahg1969 and greenface, although by the sounds of Mojisola's post, mum was in the wrong. Pew pew pew lasers, that is what the sign says - Loading before 11am at the top of the sign, a line and then disabled parking only after 11am at the bottom. Thanks everyone for your help.

Why is there always one?! It was a simple question, which required a civilised answer - no need for the rant and borderline insults.......

If that is exactly what it says, as it does not say loading ONLY, I too would think disabled parking would be fine. Need someone who knows the exact rules on the signs wordage.

i think the the person who put the ticket on 2 minutes before the time was a bit harsh. Anyway, aren't these parking 'fines' unenforceable like we have said a thousand times before on this forum
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Only private ones. Council ones - like this one will be - will be enforceable.
