Like custardy says the only guaranteed next day delivery is special delivery, for really urgent items it is a must. Yes it does cost £4.60 for a letter but it takes away any worry.
Please be careful with recorded the system is a bit poorly. Firstly is is just standard mail so Royal mail don't even consider it late until 15 working days after it was posted (3 weeks!). Then many no longer are signed for, everything I sent in October recorded delivery (to a Government entity for work) failed to get a signature yet all did arraive in a few days.
If ti is urgent please don't rely on recorded.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Do it online and it's delivered instantly0

Realistically, these forms represent hours of work and cash in the bank - so it's worth guaranteeing their arrival.
You can get a 'proof of postage' from the post office when you send it which is free but it just goes with the normal mail. recorded delivery also doesn't appear to be any guarantee as it just goes in with the normal mail. special delivery, I'm told, travels in the front with the driver and get handled reverently.
I'm not sure about applying on-line. I've worked all my life in IT and had various government related forms go 'missing'. My mum's tax assessment 'disappeared' when she did it on-line as well. Personally I download the forms, fill them in on the PC, save and print them and send them snail mail via Special Delivery.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

i didnt post the form special delivery as i didn,t get it till i came home from work by which time the post office was shut but i managed to get the last pick up at our local tesco store. I hope that they accept my reason for the delay but the way things are going for me at the moment, i wouldn,t be suprised if they dont...0

what if you're a foot postie?
SD items are handled seperatly the whole way through their journey
proof of posting means very little given the items have a low value0 -
im worried now, i gave my dla form to specialist at hospital to complete her part on behalf of my son. The form was meant to be back with dla by 23rd jan , i hadnt received it from hospital by 20th jan, so phoned dla and explained this and asked for an extension, i was told NO... When i phoned the consultants sec. he said that the form was on his desk as their photocopier had broken and they needed a copy of the form for my sons file. It was sent out to me that day, i didn,t receive it till the 22nd jan and sent it straight on the dla on that day. I got a letter from them saying they didnt receive it till 26th jan to which i replied with the reasons and also the fact that they could check with consultants sec., do you think i will have problems getting it backdated as it should be from 12th dec, thats quite a loss of award if so ?
Chase the hospital & ask them to put a letter with it saying the delay was there fault not yours. It works I did it once for me and I also did it on the other foot as person submitting extra evidence to supprt a claim and it worked on the deadline issue.0
