Afternoon all,
I've been to Toddlers and Ds2 was so naughty:mad: he kept pushing all the other kids out of the way so he could play with stuff:o . I bought him sweets this morning when i got the bread and milk for toddlers. I said he could have them after toddlers if he was good, he wasn't so he didn't have them. He then had the most almighty tantrum:rolleyes:
Is he still at the stage where he does not realise he is doing something wrong, just getting excited with all the toys ?
My DS is 17 months and always seems to want to the toy that another child has picked up! Thankfully he is napping now, so I can sort some other bits and hopefully knit too.

DD moved up to middle school a year ago. She was seen by the educational psychologist at her previous school who said she had suspected dyslexia. They found that she is a tactile learner and learns by touching and feeling things. She learned her alphabet with furry and sandpaper letters. Now she is a fabulous reader and reads at least a book a week.
I asked the special needs teacher if she needs a test to say one way or the other if she does have dyslexia. I was told it wouldn't make any difference to put a name to her dificulties. I'm wondering if I ought to pursue this.
Sorry to stick my oar in.... well, not sorry really, but you know what I mean!!...... just caught up on the thread, and read your conversation and Serena's wonderful reply.
The 'special needs teacher' needs a rocket sticking somewhere painful!!! Of course it makes a difference to know if there's a 'name' for her difficulties!! Sorry, CS please don't think I'm having a pop at you, it's these blasted teachers/sencos who don't know their *rse from their elbows!!!!!
Your poor girl, she's tussling with trying to remember what she's supposed to be doing, you're doing all you can to support her with that.... they ought to be holding their end up by getting her assessed to see it there is an additional issue. Very often Dyspraxia and Dyslexia can be found together. Too often the powers that be want to lump all a child's difficulties on one diagnosis, rather than get a whole picture.
I'm all too familiar with that, as seemingly everyone wanted to tell me my daughter's behaviour was because she has Downs. (plus that I was a rubbish mother at managing her, because I was in denial about her disability   ) It wasn't until I let my girl loose at the paed's office, instead of doing my utmost to manage her, that suddenly the paed thought she'd better refer her for some assessments.... Lo and Behold..... the result of the assessments - my daughter has severe ADHD.
(Incidentally, my gorgeous little girl trashed the paed's office!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )
Now, she has some medication, we have some strategies for managing her, and everything's reasonably ok now.
Do push for some more assessments, I had an Ed Psych tell me that it wasn't relevant to mention on my DD3's Statement that she has ADHD?!Because "we can get too hung up on labels" Well, without my DD3's 'labels' I'd be suicidal by now, and she wouldn't be progressing at school to the degree that she is..... she couldn't sit down and listen to be taught before she had her medication.
Sorry to rant there CS but it's an issue that drives me crazy; and it's not to say that your lovely girl has an additional issue, but if she has then you all need to know don't you, so that you can get some strategies in place to help her.
(((((hugs)))))) and forgive my rant.MMSSB Club Founder Member

ChaMichelle - thanks for the encouraging words - i totally agree, kids come first cleaning second but it would be nice to get something done. My house is the same, one day I'm going to break my neck tripping over toys, already stepped on a Megablock today (ouch!) BTW OH came with me shopping, if I'm by myself then its tescos or nothing!
Gryfon - i know how you feel - DD1 peed all over the living room carpet this morning but she came up and gave me a big sponanous hug afterwards so that was nice.

I almost got away with washing Ds2's blankie without him noticing but he caught me:rolleyes: . I'd bundled it up with his dirty bedding when i stripped his bed, but he still spotted it. I did manage to get it off him and into the wash by telling him it would make him poorly if it wasn't cleaned. He's done well though the last time i washed it he sat by the machine crying watching it go round and round.:o
I'm going to go out in the garden and do the wood and coal now otherwise i'll just be dreading it until i do it;) . Then we're going to have hot chocolate and coco pans (no matter how many times i tell Ds2 they're marshmallows he still calls them coco pans, he can say it as well). Then i'll be back for some more HHC's.
