Pigpen - if you don't look after yourself we'll sent Triker round to keep you in order! She's right, you can't just keep going indefinitely on painkillers (I know, I've had to deal with the after effects and it took a long time to sort out and has resulted in permanent neurological damage - as well as a stomach ulcer that is very easily resurrected!). If you don't want help from the doctor, then look into the alternatives.

Lil_me - how about law? It seems to fit with a lot of your interests... by the way, you need to add to your list for Pigpen that you're very good at research, share the benefits of your experience with your friends, stand up for what you believe in, are knowledgeable in a huge number of areas, and are supportive of those in need (there's lots more, but I need to get on and do my HR paperwork!)

ZLS - try tofu rather than quorn (well, I prefer it), and lots of veggies. There are some very good vegan recipes around, and they're generally low fat. I'm (supposedly :o ) on an anti-inflammatory diet, so eat lot of veggies (aubergines, courgettes, kale, spinach, chard etc - I don't cook with tomatoes as it makes them acidic, but I eat loads raw). They make great pasta sauces mixed with silken tofu, and can also be used with it to make lasagne or vegetables en-croute (wrapped in a bit of puff pastry). If I have dairy, I go for goats cheese or ricotta, and small amounts of yogurt. Soup is good too. Hope you find something that tempts you and doesn't have a nasty reaction.

Boddy - it must be very hard for you all, but as Lil_me says, you must be proud of the way your GS has dealt with it.

Froddy - hope you've managed to destress after your day, and that your pupil recovers soon. I have huge admiration for you and your colleagues who work in such volatile situations on a daily basis.

PF - can you not confiscated OH's card and set him up with an account that you put pocket money into for him?! (Same goes for you Lil_me). I had a friend who did this because her ex-OH knew he couldn't be trusted with money so left it up to her to manage. Mind you, he did 'borrow' her card occasionally for internet purchases, and it also meant that all the finances/debts were in her name when he walked out...

Some years ago, before chip and pin, he used to carry a cheque book and things were even worse! I'm not sure he would agree to giving me his card, but I'm thinking of printing out the budget and giving it to him to see if it will shock him. He's not exactly a "spendthrift" but the little bits here and there add up and he needs to take notice, instead of just hoping it will go away.
