We have an Octavia 1.9 diesel 18 months old. Today DH said he had no hot air or volume on the radio:confused: I have just been in the car and the radio is working fine but only warm air after 15-20 mins. Obviously need some hot air to keep window clear etc. It has air con but no hot from that either:confused: No idea about cars but could the 2 problems be linked! Will ring garage in the morning in the vain hope they can fix it before Thursday as DH in hospital from then. Any possibility that it might just be a fuse! Thanks. always like to ask here first just incase someone might be able to solve the problem.

is the fan running when you say no hot air?
eg is it blowing cold only or not blowing at all?
how is the cars temp showing on the gauge?(if it has one)

Check the coolant level as this can happen if it's too low.

Fan is running fine just warm air, cold air, just no hot air. It took about 10 mins to have warm air. As for coolant no idea but can check in the morning, very cold and very wet outside!!! The warning light isn't on but that doesn't mean anything!

The only electricity used in a car heater is to run the fan.

The heat comes from the water in the engine cooling system.

If the water is not hot = no heat.

This time of year you need to cover a few miles before it warms up.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

DH didn't drive for long period this morning but during the very cold weather in October it did heat up pretty quick. Tonight once we got warm air it stayed warm but took a good 15 mins to get warm after 30 min no change. We will give it a longer go tomorrow to see what happens, still under warrenty so hopefully no expense!

The thermostat housing may have collapsed and need replacing too. Guess it is also possible the heater control valve is broken. Feel the coolant hoses to see if they get hot (not lukewarm).

if its onlu 18 months old then it should still have some warranty on it.
as far as im aware some of these 1.9 vw engines have plastic impellers on the water pump and they can be prone to breaking and not circulating the water just as well as it should.
how is the temperature gauge when its been out on a run and then left to idle for 20 minutes? does the gauge still stay roughly central or does it go above half way?
