Travel company charging for credit card transaction

  • If it was booked on a WEB-SITE & not by talking to a 'real person' there would have been SOME point that said 'have you read our terms & conditions' before the booking was confirmed.

As i said before, a real person (!) would inform you of this. If you did not read the terms & conditions (if a web booking) then tough-not much can be done.

The web is a great thing but sometimes talking to a human can be clearer!

Guys/gals-please note that agents/tour op's are charged 1.95% for c/cards up to 2.5% (amex) by the bank.

There is only so much that can be given away!

    Chris

Agents/tour ops are also charged for flights and hotels and many other items, of which credit card charges are but one!

The point I am making is that if you offer a package, it should be an inclusive package and paying by credit card is necessary for most people - it gives them protection.

Talking about 'giving away' money. You neglect to mention the interest you earn on deposits and advance payment in full.

I have absolutely no problem with any business making a profit and I accept that travel agents operate in a highly competitive industry. However I really don't like this padding of bills that seems to be a speciality of the travel industry - booking fees, payments for meals on planes, coach travel from airport, fuel surcharges and of course credit card fees.

To be honest, I do - and I'd read them very closely if I was spending the amount you have (£700+ ??).

I don't wish to worry you, but here's something else you may have missed...
If you wish to cancel: Any client cancelling a booking must do so in writing. The following cancellation charges apply, and are calculated from the date of the written cancellation letter received at our office:

I have to admit the whole C/C and booking fee - thats the one that really gets me...charging me to book my holiday when they are earning money from the booking gets right up my nose to and I refuse to pay it if an agents quotes it or trys to hide it in a wont book with them on the net you dont ahve a choice because there is no one to barter with but because your often getting a better deal anyway I put up with it for the extra protection
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

Debit cards are the way-nil charge!

    Not always true!

Not only are FlyBE now charging for baggage they also charge a (relatively) large amount for debit card payments!

    <<DEBIT CARD - £0.60 / Euro0.90 / CZK26 / CHF1.40 (or local currency equivalent) per passenger per single flight sector.>>

And Ryanair charge 40p per passenger/sector.

There is rules for charging for debit cards and they are quite strict.
From what I recall from working lunch companies can ONLY charge for debit cards if they apply a fee to ALL forms of payment.

Eg, if there is no fee for cash, then they cannot charge a fee for Debit cards

But if the only payment they accept is Credit/Debit cards, then they are entitled to charge a fee equal to or less than the fee they apply to the credit card payments.

As posted earlier Tescos and the likes do not charge a fee, but they do a Tax avoidance 'scam' by paying a 'fee' for the transaction to a holding company (ie Tescos Card handling services) this appears on the bill, but does not effect the total amount payable. Ie you spend £100 then £97.50 goes to Tesco and £2.50 goes to Tesco card company, so you still pay £100. For them this means they can avoid paying Tax on the 2.5% somehow, im not big on tax maybe some bright spark can explain it. Considering £1 out of every £7 is spent in the UK is spent in Tescos, any reduction in tax is HUGE for them, and screws the rest of us hard working tax payers.

I recently booked flights for 7 people with Easyjet and they wanted £17 credit card charge !

Easyjet now charge £1.00 for all debit cards apart from Electron ones.
Here I go again on my own....
