    Yes and No...

Okay let me explain. Someone can sneak your data if your not sending it encrypted. No matter where you are. However, if your using the mobile broadband then only do it via https.

You should be fine. Oh and dont use windows. :-) i use windows all the time, but I'd never use it over wifi or mobile for banking. Slap a secure linux distro on a bit of your hard drive and use that for your banking.

PS I'm not advocating any computer OS.

    Cheers

Eeek, I wouldn't know where to start with Linux, TBH. I have only ever used Windows.

I'd be really grateful if you could explain further

Go to Mandriva dot com and download Mandriva Linux.

burn the iso adn it will take you through the defaults to getting a dual boot machine. When it gets to the bit that says .... do you want to claim from free space and keep windows then simply say yes.

No crashes etc in the OS. :-)

    Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, mobile broadband is as secure as your home broadband connection. Just make sure you're on your banks real website, and the web address begins https://

And don't worry about Linux, some people like it so much they'd recommend it for cooking your breakfast in the morning if they had half a chance ;)

(Not that there's anything wrong with Linux... my laptop has it on!)

I use Linux on 2 desktops and a laptop at home all the time, but I wouldn't recommend it for cooking breakfast - my machines all run far too cool for that... Try Vista if you want to fry an egg near the heat outlet of your laptop ;-)

ah so youve seen the toaster that runs linux too.

seriously if you are concerned about security but not that technical then linux is a pretty good choice, its so easy these days and stuff like ubunto can be installed onto a windows partition so you can try it totally safely.

indeed, the best way to try it is to head to https://www.ubuntu.com, get a free cd shipped out, boot off it (reboot your pc with the cd in) and choose the "live" option, then you can play with it before you install it :)

Not any less safe than any other connection - the 3G connection is encrypted.
Make sure the website is secure (https)
    Use anti-virus / firewall.
I also use 'spybot - search & destroy' to keep the machine clean too.
