I have read on here that so many people have had problems with this company. My vet nurse friend told me that they have waited 1 year for payouts.Well I have received a cheque from them with no queries in 9 weeks for the correct amount. I have another claim in to them but that might be a dirrerent story!!This was just to say that miracles maybe do happen.

I have had the odd swift payout from this firm but unfortunately the majority of my experience has been extremely negative..Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0

Yes you do hear occasional good stories about E&L, unfortunately for every 1 I can quote 10 negative ones, including my own. But glad your claim went well.0

petplan usually pay out to my vet in about 2-3 weeks, they have usually received the payment before petplan have writtedn to me to inform me they have settled the claim!0

i had to claim for my dog with e&l, not a biggie though, and they were quick, had my horse insured with them for 7 years, and knew deep down that i should have changed to a different insurer, but never did, i never claimed for the horse though, glad, as i dont trust them, and it would be awful to have a huge vet bill for a horse, and have to fight the insurers, which being e&l i probably would have had to do.THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0

9 weeks is slow. Pet Plan, Tesco, Direct Line etc usually pay within 2 weeks. My longest is 7 months but regularly over 3 months. Doesn't matter any more as we don't take direct claims because of the delays.0

Not taking direct claims seems like a good idea, but we have had to accept that we cannot manage without. We do try and avoid being caught out by E&... and others by checking policies ruthlessly beforehand. I'm not sure that the majority of my clients could afford to pay up front - I'm just jolly grateful that they have insured in the first place. It scuppers cash flow but I think clients welcome the service - we have had clients move to us for this reason alone.
I do not allow E&... direct claims except where I have absolutely no chance of getting anything from the client themselves. I take the view that if I am not expected to pay the garage bill for bending my car up front then why should my clients pay the larger vet bill up front?
I can certainly see your point but how do you get round the "I really cant pay up front" or do you never get those?Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0 -
Received payment from Petguard in two weeks and it was quite a big claim - over £2,000, so I was quite pleased with them.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

I always wonder why I bother with insurance as no Vets here settle with any insurers, if I have the amount of the bill then I wouldn't need insurance! I wouldn't want the money back, i'm more than happy to spend my last penny on the zoo.I will always have insurance but just hope if it ever comes to it I can talk my Vet round to claiming direct, I have been going there for about 20+yrs & I can't imagine life without my cat, i'm Bipolar & she's my life really! She's been with me thru everything & I couldn't have her pts.
A 'friend' made me MAD yesterday, I said I think if I get a Cav Spaniel the Insurance with Pet Plan for life will be at least £200 & she said she pays £10 a month with E&L for her dog. I said change it if you haven't claimed (She hasn't) & told her why. She says she was thinking of cancelling it & having no insurance. So I say, what about huge Vet bills? She says she'd just have him pts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right now i'm not even bringing myself to talk to her, her dog is 2.5yrs old & beautiful, how anyone could have him pts for not affording a Vet bill idk! I hope no Vet would do that but again idk. So, yep mine will be insured but it doesn't leave me with peace of mind! lol0 -
To clarify - we accept direct payments from every insurance company EXCEPT any underwritten by E&L and Domestic & General. I should have phrased it better. That rule is 100% enforced because of delays and odd payments being taken off - such as the remaining premiums for the year (that annoyed me, why should I collect premiums?). We will regularly do direct claims for Pet Plan, Direct Line, Tesco etc0
