  • Hi Doodle

Glad to hear you sound a bit more upbeat again :) Was all worried about you the other day!!!

Well done on the xmas wrapping – I started on mine last night, only the nice square things mind you – CD & couple of DVD’s … Couldn’t face too much so kept it nice and simple!!!

Ooooo decisions decisions.. I’ve been advised to get the emergency fund together first by a lot of people – but reading Martins advice – I should pay debts first… its still something I’m struggling to make a decision with – so love to see what others reply to you with!!!

Good luck for MSE tasks today!

Typical - I stay off board for a few days and everyone gets down in the dumps! Just kidding (not that narcissistic!), but it is good to see you being a bit more cheerful :)

I'd strongly recommend building up some sort of emergency buffer - don't go over to the 'doomed economy' board, as you'd panic straight away! Also, they're very mean to DFWs and call us all 'huggies'! That said, we do use a heck of a lot of suspect hug smilies.

You could maybe do something along the lines to what I'm trying - which is a multipurpose emergency/savings fund? Essentially I'm saving a fixed sum (think it's ~£160/mth) that goes straight into my IF isaver on the first day of the month. It's multipurpose as it will get used either:

    a) As emergency monies If my GF fails to get a contract extension/new job in August
    b) As a hefty debt payoff if everything goes to plan and we don't need the emergency fund in mid 2009...

I think the general consensus is that an emergency fund of some sort is essential, even if it's just your sealed jar..

Definately feeling a little more upbeat today, onwards and upwards and all that lol

Edinburgher - I like the idea of a savings pot for emergencies and then maybe if I get it to £x without needing to use it then I can chuck it at a debt. I won't be saving a huge amount though thats for sure lol.

Tigzem - definately their loss :p

I would def go for a bit of an emergency savings pot......you would be gutted if an emergency came up and you had no money to bail you out - that would really be something you can do without.

Of course, if you don't need your emergency fund, you can always pay it off a debt later on.

Thanks Hypno. I think I am going with building up a small emergency fund, then should I not need it I can pay a few hundred off a debt and start again :T

Busy day at work today although made bearable with fresh mince pies :o:D

Not sure what to do this evening I am quite tempted to sit and mooch online and watch TV but I have a pile of presents still to wrap.

  • Dear Doodledo

I am saying this really quietly as I feel guilty I heard from you know who that I got in today. So although obviously I am very happy I feel sad that you are not going to be my buddy in this.
